It was weird for her to actually want to be alone, but she was sure this was something she didn’t want her new friends to hover around her for. It was embarrassing enough having to talk in song all the time, and resisting the urge to eat the prey creatures that so willingly wandered into her range of vision took more focus than she wanted to admit. On top of all that, she’d noticed…something about herself. Something that had to do with the odd feeling she’d gotten after helping to bring down that god bear. It was very fleeting, but she’d found her body would occasionally and momentarily flicker, taking on a silver aura and slipping through solid objects like air, only to return to solid form a moment later.
This could be a blessing or an annoyance, and she’d resolved to master it before it caused her any serious harm. What if she ghosted halfway through something and then solidified? That seemed like it could get very deadly very quickly. So she made a special trip to the beach this night, taking a moment to admire the beauty of the glowing coastline before focusing on her task. She gathered a few rocks of varying size – all small enough that they wouldn’t take up her entire form during her attempts.
That was her prep work complete. She stared at the stones. So…ghosting…how did one master this, exactly?

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","pepper"] It had been a while since Pepper had seen any of her small group of friends - most importantly Quartz. The onyx female had been the first mortal she had fully placed her trust in. It was concerning to not have seen or sensed the huntress around the Cradle in a while; concerning enough to warrant the young-bodied wolf to go out on a search away from the sea of snowdrops. Her stubby limbs were aching from the overuse they had suffered through the day, but there was no stopping now. That underlying fear of death, the self-preservation that lay within all beings, was the ticket to finding the lost canine. Unlike normal scents it didn't get swept away with the wind or disturbed by physical tampering. Pepper had finally run across a tendril that, she knew from experience, belonged to Quartz. Something else was eating at her friend, but the thought of probing was swept away. She wasn't the type to pry. The only mission here was to make sure the obsidian being was alright. Salty air danced with each wave that rolled in the distance. The moon had awoken the sea to preform a song of crashing tides. It was peaceful. Enough to relax the false-pup's tense muscles before the next few paces to show her presence were performed. Pepper still wasn't savvy to Quartz life-detection skills, thus she mistakenly thought she had enough time to hesitate. She had been keenly aware of the bear-like brute stomping behind her. Myrriah, though funny in the brain, was welcome company with the state she was in right now. A nice form protection and actually not as mean as she had originally thought. That or he head seriously bumped his head on the way over. "Okay. We're here." Came the high-pitched vocals back toward the male. If he wanted to get ready in some way then it was best he did it now. Then Pepper was once more standing before her friend, albeit much smaller than typical. Still, the difference didn't stop the bounce in her tail from seeing that the female was alright. "Quartz!" It was nearly a giddy yip; perhaps she had missed the huntress more than thought prior. Regardless, the scene with the pebbles was completely looked over in favor of puppy-blue irises looking up to the wolf instead. tags: @quartz Myrrwords: 392 notes: puppy pepper is on the scene [newclass=.pepper]max-height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper b]color:#843a30;text-shadow: 0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper i]color:#dc2f18; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]

He had little idea what sense drove him to follow the not-pup Pepper on this hare brained "mission" but here he was plodding in her wake with unsteady gate. The sweet smell of the ever blooming woods had long since been replaced my the musky tang of the sea, something the male had never known before. Thus, upon the first reveling of the endless waters caused his clouded mind to reel. Now the pair stood near the coastline, the sounds of the waves beating like a living heart echoing in his perked ears. It was astounding. The whole of it. Myrr has seen a great lake whose far shore was but a thin line on the horizon but this.. "What?" Large head shook slightly as he flicked his eyes to the small frame. He hadn't quite heard her words and gave her a look of furrowed questioning as she skipped away. He, not thinking of his appearance or anything really, lumbered after the flecked tail after nearly falling face first in the sand for tripping on his own paws. At the call of the other, the male shook his head. "No, no, no. That ain't quartz. That's shale...I think." Of course, he was not looking at the plainly visible she-wolf whom his younger counterpart was looking at. He was, instead, scowling at the line of stones before her.

Two lives entered her sensing range – both wolf, and one familiar. So Pepper had found her, had she? Perhaps she should have said something before she’d gone. It was easy enough for her to locate the others, after all, and the last thing she wanted to do was worry anyone. She simply didn’t think she’d be taking long here. Maybe a few hours, hopefully no longer than one.
Either way, now that she knew the other wolf was here, she was a bit self-conscious about her chosen task. Failure would, of course, be embarrassing. But then, Pepper had also been part of that hunt. Maybe she’d picked up the same thing? Then they could practice together. Or she could leave it for another day. These stones weren’t likely to go anywhere – as far as she knew, they held no real value to a wolf beyond the practice she’d had in mind.
An unfamiliar voice called her name happily. Her hackles lifted momentarily – how did a stranger know her name? But she flattened her fur once the moment passed. That was a pup’s voice. Pups were meant to be protected. Still…she didn’t know any pups, and she’d hoped that only adult wolves were ripped from pack and family to arrive here.
Another voice – an adult male she definitely didn’t know – reached her ears. Her body tensed, and she spun around, regarding the pair. The pup absolutely looked familiar, but that was impossible! She tried to place that face to any name she recalled from her former pack. None matched, of course. But, as she studied her, it occurred to her that the pup looked exactly like Pepper. And her power-sense assigned that very name to that tiny pup.
Impossible…and yet, so was her forced singing, and ghosting through objects, and being able to manipulate earth and whatever and everything else she’d seen in her time here. Perhaps this was the work of whatever god had cursed her and the male she’d met recently.
“She means me,” she informed the unfamiliar male – of course in song, since her voice could do nothing else these days. She gazed at him warily, but made a point to keep her posture neutral rather than hostile. Friend of a friend or not, she never trusted a stranger. “And who might you be?”

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","pepper"] Pepper hadn't taken into account that her petite size might of thrown the onyx female for a loop. It was understandable why Quartz showed confused hostility at first, though it didn't make the pup's heart beat any slower. Thankfully the situation resolved itself as it seemed her friend soon realized who she was - though trapped in a youthful body. What occurred next, however, was rather unexpected. A crisp melody parted the night as the pitch huntress moved her lips in turn. It was an enthralling noise, one that Pepper quite enjoyed listening to, but she doubted that the performance was conducted for her sake. No, if she had to guess, something had cursed Quartz as well. Perhaps every wolf had one ailment or another; while it was a relief she hadn't been singled-out, a shadow of worry crept over each tiny feature. How long would it last? Would it get worse?
These troubling thoughts had to be pushed aside, however, as a musical question danced rather sternly toward the brute at her back. It made sense. Myrr was certainly an intimidating specimen and also not the friendliest face around. After spending some time with the male, though, Pepper discovered he wasn't so bad. After all, thanks to him and Sundew, she hadn't starved to death. In fact, she had made a crucial discovery of her powers and their usefulness in hunting. "Oh, it's okay. He walked me over here." Though higher in pitch, those nervous words could come from no other but the salt-pepper being. She wanted to assure her friend's nerves as well as aid whatever else was itching at the wolf's paranoia. "Um, but are you okay? All the way out here away from the Cradle..." She hated being so far from the sea of snowdrops. The salty air burned her eyes and the ocean only sent sticky sprays of salt-water into her fur. Everything was unfamiliar and provoked anxiety from the canine's heart. But for Quartz she would travel here again and again. tags: @quartz Myrr words: 336 notes: --- [newclass=.pepper]max-height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper b]color:#843a30;text-shadow: 0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper i]color:#dc2f18; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]

As soon as the trilling notes of a rather stern female hit his ears, Myrr turned his glaring features to the suddenly present black wolf. At first, his brows knitted tighter over his judging gaze, fiery bronze suns glowing in the space of his star dusted frame. They seemed cold, blank, and of ill content. SO what happened next would be the least expected. It took a few moments for things to register in his fogged mind, but once they did a loud, grating noise escaped his parted jaws. The male was lost in uproarious laughter. If he had heard anything stated by the tiny female, it wasn't revealed. "You think you're quartz", was given between the bouts. "I can understand the scrap, but...you?!" It was clear the male was still stuck on his first thought. The mistakenly identified stones. And now the dark coated female thought herself to be this mineral. Not only that but the fact that the other sang her threats just tickled him to the core. This kind of behavior was entirely thanks to the haze of his entire being. Under any normal circumstances, Myrriah probably wouldn't have even said anything.

As she spoke, Pepper seemed to worry. Well, yeah. She was probably conflicted on how she felt about finding others dealing with this mess. It was odd, though…uncontrollable singing, vomiting flowers, eternal puphood…how many supernatural ailments were being spread around, here? Did every wolf have something?
Pepper tried to reassure her about her companion. So…she was under his protection? If that was true, she could respect it, though she’d wait to see his character for herself before she decided he was trustworthy or not. Right now, his expression and stance hinted at danger, and it was taking all her willpower to keep calm.
Pepper asked if she was okay, being away from the cradle. She nodded to the she-wolf. “I needed somewhere open to practice something. I’ve been here before, right at the beginning… I suppose these sands are a comfort to me, though I’ll always prefer the lush greenery.”
Anything else she might have had to say left her mind at the sound of the male’s laughter. Her hackles raised, and her lip lifted over the tips of her fangs in the beginnings of a snarl. His attitude certainly wasn’t winning her over…what did Pepper see in him? “Quartz is my name – was that really not clear? Now, who are you and what are you doing here?” If his intentions were any less pure than looking after Pepper in her weakened state…well…it wouldn’t be the first time she’d been in an argument or fight, would it?

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","pepper"] Quartz was practicing something? When did this start? Pepper felt a little downhearted that she hadn't been kept in the loop, but quickly reminded herself that the onyx huntress wasn't obliged to tell her everything. Or anything for that matter. She should be thankful enough the female considered her a friend. In any case, it was a relief to hear that her companion preferred the softer setting of the Cradle over this salty spray. She could understand having a connection to the place in which one first appeared, after all the frail being wasn't keen on being away from her own starting point, but even paradise got lonely. The pup's small lips parted in the beginning of a kind understanding when roaring laughter thundered from the brute less than a yard behind her. The sound was so great and unexpected that it made the pint-sized Pepper jump and take a few panicked steps toward Quartz. Upon realizing it was merely Myrriah, however, a sigh of a relief was had. A bit too soon, however, for the obsidian female of the pair didn't seem as happy. Though her angered words came out in a rhyming tune, they didn't lose their bite. The last thing the youth-trapped wolf wanted was a fight to break out; there would be nothing she could do with the state she was in. Thus, stubby limbs sent her across the sand and over to the fore paws of her friend. "Wait! It's not his fault; he was cursed too. There is something wrong with his head."Pepper hoped to draw her friend's attention downward as to connect her puppy-blue eyes with their counterpart. "I promise he doesn't mean any harm. He helped save my life."
Which was all true. Myrr was a snarky butt on his better days, but he didn't seem the type to cause trouble on purpose. After all, if he was truly bad he would of let Pepper starve or abandoned her on their way here. A good heart had to lay beneath that brutish build and scowling face. Only when everything settled down, if in fact they did, would a more light-hearted voice depart, "But... um, do you need help with anything? Or we can, you know... all go back home?"tags: @quartz Myrr words: 378 notes: she is doing her best [newclass=.pepper]max-height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper b]color:#843a30;text-shadow: 0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper i]color:#dc2f18; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.pepper::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]

In his boisterous guffawing the beast failed to understand the brink on which he was teetering. It didn't help that the words uttered by the pitch hued female were sung in a sweet melody, either. In fact, her demanding words just sent him over the edge as his muddled body fell in a cackling heap to the cold sand. Head twisted to the side as legs flailed in great mirth as the male gasped for breath. Finally, a small part of him snapped to attention and regained some composure, allowing Myrriah to lift his head from the earth and look at the dark female. Granted, he still racked with chuckled coughs from the force of his humor. "Eh, the pup is right. I wanted- Heheh- to keep her safe." Then more rich laughter. It seemed even the thought of the other speaking was enough, but he still had enough rule to add, "Something wrong with my head? If there's something wrong with my head then we're all doomed." And once more he was lost to mirth.

The male’s laughter had scared Pepper. It was only momentary, but it still added another reason for her to mistrust him. She was starting to collect a decent pile of those…
Then Pepper tried to defend him, explaining that something was wrong with his head. She snorted at that. “Clearly.” But this was yet another curse? Well, she didn’t doubt he might have tried to pass it off as such, but there was the chance of it being genuine. She supposed time would tell, if these were temporary effects. And he saved her life, hmmm? What would have attacked her this time? Were more of those spirit animals out and about? A god creature of some variety?
Maybe she should be spending more of her time back home.
The male had collapsed in his laughter, failing to answer her questions but at least responding to Pepper. Right, he was so convincing right now. She would tolerate him for Pepper’s sake and put away her fangs until they were needed, but she was growing more and more certain that this wolf wasn’t to be trusted, cursed mind or not.
Pepper asked if she needed help with her practice, and then suggested they could go home. She…wasn’t done, but she wasn’t sure she wanted to do this with company. Especially not certain company. Her eyes flicked from the pup to her friend and then toward the cradle. “We can head back if that would make you more comfortable.” She could always try again later. Pepper’s safety was important – especially right now.
