Her fangs connected, sinking right into the flesh of his thigh. She braced herself as he buckled, getting the first taste of…that wasn’t blood. Not the way she’d ever known it. What was it, then? Whatever it was, it was oddly…renewing. The taste stirred feelings in her that held only the faintest whiff of familiarity beyond the act of hunting itself.
Whatever it was, she’d deal with it later. Right now, the elk was trying to get away. He staggered forward until one of her companions made her attack. At that point, he shook her off, and she retreated a few steps to give herself a moment to recover. Only a moment – the hunt was still on. She could deal with a bit of soreness in her jaw for now.
The elk tried to retreat, but his injuries caused him to stumble. Quartz hurried forward, eager to finish the elk off and feast. Unfortunately, he seemed to realize that he was too injured to flee. He turned to face them, determined to stand his ground. Now, the fight was about to get tricky.
The other wolf chose that moment to join in, aiming an attack at his hindquarters. The skeletal bicolor moved around to its flank, and she slunk around toward the other flank. He couldn’t attack in all three directions at once! She would wait for a moment where he was distracted by one of the others and then dash in, just long enough to chomp at a foreleg. His range of attack would be limited if he couldn’t stand.

[googlefont=Montserrat] [attr="class","hunt"] [attr="class", "godling"]Spirit Bull Elk Challenge Rating: Hard HP: 25 / 75 Reward: 30 EVO Points [attr="class","hunt5"] So focused was it on the pair of hunters that had first attacked it, the elk took no notice of the third sneaking up behind it until once more it was shedding great, glossy drops of blood. The hammer of her paws scrabbling against his thickened hide was nothing compared to the fangs that buried themselves in his hindquarters, and the bull felt itself fall backward, pulled by the hanging wolf’s weight. Its hooves stuttered on the ground, seeking some sense of purchase, desperate to right its heaving weight, when the second attack came. It was only sheer dumb luck and his own frenzied dancing that kept the injury from being catastrophic. As it was, the elk still bellowed in pain as the salt-and-peppered wolf dug her fangs deep into the slab of muscle that covered its sloping shoulder. He wrenched, desperate to turn his rage upon her, but she was off him and away before he could even think to strike. He only stared at her, eyes rimmed red with pain, took in the splash of his blood upon her muzzle, steaming in the mid-morning cool – and realized that perhaps his life was about to once more flame out, as it had done ages upon ages ago when he was still mortal. When the third came, he was almost resigned, but still the elk struggled, self-preservation warring with the fatigue that was suddenly sapping the strength from its limbs. Again, it sidled away at the very last moment, and her fangs closed on a chunk of flesh, tearing it free of the bull’s greater form. The wound she’d left behind bled sluggishly but freely, and the injured limb trembled heavily. He was so close to death now, still capable of fighting back – but a final assault would drop him down to the ground, and it would all be over from there. He had to ward them off – was desperate to push them away – and his body gave a great buck, desperate to dislodge the first wolf that clung to his hindquarters. ooc: wolf attack rolls. spotless again, ladies. same damage as last time, and this guy still hasn't managed an attack of his own. Pepper The taste of the bi-colored blood that splashed against her tongue was... incredible. Pepper was far from a glutton as anyone could see from her scrawny physique, but this oozing liquid stirred a great hunger within. It was like it not only sated the thirst of her stomach but also the soul. This coaxed the salt-pepper canine to swipe her salmon-colored muscle across each lip to both clean and savor the flavor. The trio had worked flawlessly together thus far as evident from the way the bull began to buckle. The next attack would floor him for good if they were able to execute it just as well. This fact awoke an excited adrenaline within - a feeling known to all predators when their prey neared the end of its life. Great respect was granted toward the specter; his life stretched far beyond their own. An act of lowly dipping her sharp-sculpted cranium displayed the honor she granted him in his last moments. Then her body contorted with lightning quick action.
Agile limbs carved sideways as to carry Pepper to the front of the elk from her previous flanking position. From here, both spittle and ivory teeth shot forward in an attempt to clamp down on the right side of the bull's meaty neck. This latching attack was unlike the last - it took all of Pepper's strength and force. It was clear that this was no leap in and then leap out bite. Instead, she would hang in place as best as she was able. This left her open for reprimand, but hopefully would aid in the final taking of this ghost's essence.

As the taste of strange blood flooded her mouth Leyda's pulse roared in her ears. It had been so long since she'd had the pleasure of working to take down anything of this size she'd forgotten the triumphant thrill of it. A wolf wasn't meant to live off rabbits, taking down great prey like this was what they were built to do. Of course, if she didn't move now she would probably be the one taken down, or more aptly squished by the elk's hindquarters. Almost regretfully releasing her bite and leaping off the end of the elk, Leyda landed a little rougher than she'd like but backed away far enough she would be out of reach should the beast attempt to kick out at her. Narrowing her eyes she began to size up the next hit, one intended to bring it down where they could end it from the ground. It seemed she wasn't the only one who had this idea, and as the younger wolf with the salt and pepper coat went for its throat, Leyda lept for its hindquarters again, attempting to bite down on where she guessed it's spine was. Their prey had fallen and was very clearly struggling. It seemed like they almost had him. She snapped up and swallowed the chunk of flesh that had come away with her. The taste was…indescribable, like the sun and stars and the whole cycle of birth and death, plant and prey and predator, were all condensed into that small chunk of nourishment. She wanted more, and she would have more if this fight kept going the way it was.
And it would, as long as they all worked together.
The thin wolf clamped onto their prey’s neck, apparently sensing his demise just as she was. Or, at least, anticipating it. Their other partner went for his hindquarters again. Not wanting to crowd either, she moved toward the shoulder of the leg she’d just attacked, attempting to rend the flesh there with a snap and jerk of her jaws. Soon, the elk would be no more, and soon they’d all get to eat their fill.
Then, perhaps, she’d get to learn the names of her two helpers, and see what she could learn about them. They seemed to work quite well together – if their souls aligned with hers, perhaps she wouldn’t be opposed to making the partnership more long term.

[googlefont=Montserrat] [attr="class","hunt"] [attr="class", "godling"]Spirit Bull Elk Challenge Rating: Hard HP: 00 / 75 Reward: 30 EVO Points [attr="class","hunt5"] The bull’s life-force flowed freely. Its strength was flagging. And the sunlight was so warm – so warm that he did not react in time, his darkening eyes only widening in silent pain as the lanky she-wolf gripped his neck. Her fangs pierced deep and true, and a soft gurgle gushed out of him, accompanied by blood from his tongue, nearly bitten in half from the agony. He sagged, already lowering his head in wearied acceptance of his fate – and then the second was upon his back, nearly straddling him as she went for his spine. His flanks were too heavily muscles, too meaty, for her to quite work up the bite force needed to sever her spine – but her vicious strike only added to the blood flow. He dropped with a suddenness that kept the third wolf from her attack, her teeth skimming his hide before he fell away from her, the titanic beast thrashing weakly as it landed on its side. The last struggle of a dying animal, pain began to fade from his senses, eyes filming over as the finality of death approached. The divine energy that had kept him immortal could not keep him from this sort of death. But it could at least let him die in peace, eyes slipping shut as if he was taking one last nap amongst the snowdrops. And then he breathed no more. ooc: wolf attack rolls. he's dead jim. you'll be allowed until saturday 23rd to do any wrap-up posts in this thread and then it will be moved to the archives. so if you want a long, drawn-out discussion, consider moving it to another thread :> first hunt complete!! Pepper It was an honor to be apart of this great bull's last moments - it stirred up a rare pride within the salt-pepper female. She could feel its last breath before passing into death. Incredible. Even when she had hunted with her mother they had never taken down a beast like this. Alabaster fangs slowly slid out of the flesh they had punctured in order for Pepper to be able to take a few paces back. With their prey successfully downed, it left ample amount of time for her to actually take-in the other two wolves. It was obvious the trio worked well together, but that didn't mean much anymore. Since the elk was now ended, if one had the want, they could easily turn on their fellow hunters. This thought awoke the fear and anxiety that waited in the shadows of the canine's mind. It was an instinctive action for her sharp-sculpted cranium to lower a bit whilst her tail tucked slightly. Submissive. If either of them bore greed and wished to fight, then Pepper certainly wouldn't hang around.
Still, she had aided in the take-down of this behemoth and there was plenty to go around. With a bit of mental preparation, a voice akin to an unsure feather prompted, "I...don't eat much. If you both wouldn't mind sharing?" Perhaps any other wolf would of skipped even asking permission and dived in. After all, Pepper had been an important part of this team. But the scrawny female wasn't the type to barge-in or make orders. Only when granted acceptance would she approach the side of the carcass closest and begin feeding. It would be a heavenly experience. A meal like she'd never tasted before. As expected, she didn't need much; however, she could admit to taking a few extra bites past having a full stomach simply for the taste.

Leyda stood over the body of the elk, chest heaving from exertion. In all honesty, the only thing that kept her from diving head first into the carcass was the vague memory to a tweaked ear to whoever was too gluttonous with the pack's catch. Taking a step back from the kill she finally looked around at the others seeing them unobstructed for the first time. "I would be happy to share, we did all take part in bringing the elk down after all. Your takedown at the end was incredibly impressive as well."It was rather interesting that the wolf with salt and pepper fur seemed to take so submissive a posture, especially with how bold going straight for the throat had been. Then again, Leyda tended to posture rather dominantly, so maybe that was putting her off? Figuring that may be it, Leyda stepped back slightly so she wasn't coming across as aggressive. @quartz Pepper

Her attack had missed, because the elk had already fallen. She watched as the last lingering wisps of life left him and his body stilled. Then she bent down, her nose against his. “Our lives continue thanks to yours. Rest well.” He’d lost his life, and because of that theirs would continue for a time. It was only proper to show gratitude, just as he’d been shown honor before his death.
There was a tense moment after the elk’s death. They’d come together in silent agreement for the hunt. Now the hunt was over. Honorable wolves would split the kill, but she knew not everyone was honorable. She watched her companions, keeping her posture and expression neutral but ready to feed or fight as the situation called for.
But there was no need for the caution. The salt-and-pepper stated that she didn’t eat much, and the other responded that she’d be happy to share. She snorted at them both, nodding in agreement as the other continued. “As it is, we’ll likely have to bury the remains. I see no reason why we can’t all have our fill.”
Anyway, she wasn’t sure she fully trusted these wolves, but she felt pretty safe in admitting she at least liked them. “I’m Quartz. What do I call you two?” She had other questions beside that, and her share of an elk to eat, but introductions seemed important. Once those were out of the way, then she’d start feasting.
((Do we want a new thread?))
