| Ever since he had met with the God of Dreams, Malachi tended to live a more nocturnal life, sleeping through the hot summer sun and slipping across the lands under the cool moonlight. Though he was loath to leave the beach with the blue surf resembling the beaches of his home, Morpheus had sent him to the Cradle to socialize and now here he was.
Unfortunately, something seemed to change with the months. Malachi was smaller and hadn't arrived in the cradle with the same set of parts he left with. Now rather than change his sleeping pattern and go out and socialize he stuck more to the nights as before and puzzled over this sudden change. In all honesty the only thing he assumed to cause this was a curse of some sort. But who would want to curse him? Rather, who possibly had the powers to do this?
Malachi puzzled over these questions as he hung half-out of his den, whuffing absently at the Snowdrops that lined the grass around the base of a tree and looking up at the stars through the branches. | notes: Malachi has been sex-changed due to the July event! |

Quartz had settled into a more-or-less normal life among the snowdrops. It was still odd to her, to be here and not in the familiar forest where she was raised. Even weirder to not be traveling, as she had been at the start of her life in this land. She almost felt lazy, and…well…maybe she had gotten that way, a bit. Hunting was easy when you could detect hidden lives nearby, so much of her day was left free, with no survival-related tasks to attend to. She was getting too comfortable. And some random god out there realized this, because she woke up a few days ago with a strange, unwanted “gift”. Prey animals of all kinds approached her without fear, and every time she tried to speak…well… Who needed words, anyway, right? Quartz wandered around one of the more unfamiliar stretches of the land. If she was going to make the cradle her home, she could at least learn all of it. Until packs and lone wolves started claiming the nearby lands, anyway. And that may be happening sooner than she might have thought – there was a wolf just over there, half hidden. She approached, her wary gaze locked on the other. They could be safe or they could be trouble. They could also be hurt. Conscience demanded she at least make sure they were okay. Malachi

| Malachi might not be in his true body but he did have a working nose at the least. As he smelled the other wolf approaching the deposed prince slipped out of his makeshift den, fully intending to mee this newcomer head on. After all, he'd smelled no territory markings around here so he was sure that the right to make a den here was his.
"I can hear and smell you over there stranger, don't you know better than to sneak up on someone like that?"
UGH, that did not sound like his voice at all, it was too light to high pitched compared to what he was used to. How long was this even supposed to last for? Malachi wasn't quite sure that he could live with being in the incorrect body for the rest of his entire existence.
Thoughts like those were for later, now Malachi should focus on dealing with this stranger. Straightening up they took on their more usual royal posture, an odd look for a wolf who was still thin from malnutrition. | notes: n/a |

The other approached her as she noticed her, and she couldn’t help a snort at her words. “I should hope no grown wolf would ‘sneak around’ so visibly. Such a wretch isn’t worth the tiniest shred of respectability.” And ugh…her attempt at talking may as well be howling. Damn this curse! She stopped a short distance away, in easy hearing range but not too close. If the stranger was going to attack, she wanted to see it coming and have the time to react properly. As it was, she seemed to be trying to display dominance. Quartz tilted her head quizzically at that. Could a wolf as thin back up such a pose with force? She kept her own stance cautiously neutral. This specific area wasn’t her land so she had no need to defend it, but she also wouldn’t be bossed around by someone she just met. This stranger would have to gain her trust and respect for that. “I make a point of getting to know everyone I find,” she stated, still in that sing-song tone she couldn’t shake. “How else will I know if you’re cruel or kind?” Malachi

| Rhyming? Now that was odd, from what corners of the world did this wolf plod? Ah, Gods, it was kind of catchy. Well, it'd be decent enough as long as the stranger didn't burst into spontaneous song anyways.
"Cruel or kind whichever I may be, a stranger surely cannot see should they elect not to introduce themselves to me."
Malachi countered, keeping his attentive stance. Jeez, it was easy to slip into rhyme but now was clearly not the time. See? He just thought it again! Well, it was better to have an infectious rhyme crawling through his head to wake up in the wrong body anyway. | notes: RHYMING, MY ONE TRUE WEAKNEsS |

Was she…mocking her? Quartz’s opinion of this wolf was dropping by the moment. The cheeky thing was lucky that Quartz wasn’t the type to start unnecessary fights, especially with those who looked less than healthy. She had no idea what to make of this other wolf, though. Or of her recent fortune in general. Surely the gods were laughing at her. Well, let them have their laugh. They’d pay for it later, when she reached her full strength. For now…what was she going to do about this strange wolf? “I didn’t approach just for your mirth,” the damn song continued from her throat, unbidden. Even her words rearranged and altered themselves on their journey from her mind to her mouth. She would certainly be looking into ways to end this infernal singing. Maybe a visit with Oberon would be the cure? At the very least, he’d know why her vocals were betraying her! “I am, indeed, here to determine your worth.” But she supposed she could be the first to introduce herself Someone had to be, and it was becoming apparent to her that she was the more civil of the two of them. “Quartz is my name. If I might have the same?” Malachi

| Hmh, seems the other wasn't a fan of rhyming unless they were the one doing it. Odd, but worth keeping track of at the least.
"Malichi, you can call me Malachi. Now I don't mean to be rude, but does everyone here talk like you? I mean rhyme wise."
Imagine how awful it would be if everyone here was stuck rhyming. Maybe it was a side effect of Godly influence? Like how he'd woken up in the wrong body. That could be true but it was unlikely he'd get any straight answers out of the wolf he was currently talking to.
Maybe he'd have to ask that god again, but how did you even call a god? That would be tomorrow's problem though. He'd socialized enough to warrant calling the god back anyways. | notes: This is late and bad i'm sorry :') |

Well, at least she’d given her name. Quartz huffed at the insinuation that she was doing this willingly. Oh, she’d learn. If whatever god had done this to her was at all merciful, Malachi would be given as much suffering as Quartz was. Maybe she was being unfair to the other wolf, but this whole…humiliating… thing was making it hard to feel anything better than irritated with anything in the world. “No – and I don’t either, on a good day.” Her voice was about as close to a snarl as she could manage under the influence of…whatever this was. “And I have no idea what’s made me this way.” As soon as this wore off, she was never singing again! And she would be hunting down the one responsible, and there’d be words and possibly blood. Perhaps preferably blood. Malachi ((You’re fine! <3))

| "Then I feel we are in the same boat. Each word that comes out of your mouth is unwillingly twisted and the flesh I wear now isn't the one I wore yesterday. I'd say a god did this to me but the only god I know wouldn't."
Sure it was a risk to tell this obviously hostile stranger of his weakness but maybe the shared misery would smooth things over. At the least, the pair of them could bounce back ideas about what could've done this to them, should they calm down a bit anyway.
"I can tell that you've grown tired of my presence so I'll only ask you one question more. Do you know anyone who would've done this to either of us?" | notes: n/a |

So she’d been cursed…into a different body? Interesting…what sort of god would have that power? What was this wolf originally? She nodded when he theorized a god had done this. “This is a land where gods are known to roam. I wouldn’t be surprised if a trickster made this home.” Perhaps one of the more unpleasant mortals had managed to ascend and was celebrating? But she somehow doubted that. Whoever could do all this must be powerful and experienced in handling that power. Otherwise, there were so many ways this could backfire for them. Though…she didn’t know. Perhaps it had. When her companion asked if she knew anyone who would do this, Quartz shook her head. “If I knew, I’d be seeking them out and bringing them to justice for what’s come about.” Malachi
