It was one of those summer twilights that seemed to go on forever. Cicadas sang from their hidden places on the tree trunks, filling the air with their sweet, rhythmic melody. Fireflies drifted in and out of dark tree trunks, letting off little blips of light that failed to replicate the beauty of the stars. The stars were hard to see. Branches splayed over the ground, sending leaves in every direction that might possibly be reached by the sun. It was only in those rare spaces where a tree or branch had recently fallen that the night sky was visible. It hovered in that ethereal space between black and purple, like the liminal gate between this world and another.
Sundew, halting for a moment on her rambling walk, gazed up at the barely visible stars. Ws the world on the other side of the gateway her own? Did her pack wonder where she had gone? To be honest, Sundew didn't quite remember how she had come to be in this world. She had followed something, that she knew, and it had been some creature she had never seen before, something that had made her catch her breath in wonder. Curiosity had seized her. She could have sworn her paws had moved by some volition that was not her own. Next thing she had known, her paws had been treading a different path. Some helpful residents had given her a rough sketch of things, but she didn't really understand. Gods? All of them? There must be more to it than that.
A faint, violent glow at the edge of her vision caught her attention. A crystal formation was slowly beginning to grow brighter and brighter. Light radiated through the spires of the crystal, casting a faint glow that put both stars and fireflies to shame. Indeed, they looked like nothing more than gaudy baubles next to the crystals. Once more, Sundrew was struck with pure joy. She was incredibly lucky to have come to this world. How many other wolves ever got to see something so wonderful as this? |

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","ilostyou"] Another mortal in the Black Forest! Oberon blew a puff of breath out through his nostrils, though in truth he didn't mind quite that much. Tonight was one of those evenings where the Black Forest did not immediately plunge into darkness, instead existing in a lingering twilight that painted the world a delicate hazy mauve. The Guide had not really taken note of how such things as seasons behaved in these realms, but occasionally there were days and nights that reminded him of why summer had been his favorite time of the year.
As such, Oberon took the time to actually walk through the Forest for once, instead of materializing straight out of the earth near his destination like some great soil beast as he had so many times prior. The Forest was definitely agreeable this evening, and the Guide took some brief pleasure in shuffling his great paws through the leaf litter on his way to meet this new arrival.
Soon he came upon the unfamiliar scent of the newcomer in question, which informed him of the basics - a female wolf, still rather young, perhaps just past the cusp of adulthood. Her scent, though still freshly reminiscent of the old world, was mingled with barely-distinguishable traces of the god realm's own unique tang, which hinted at the idea that perhaps this mortal had been here for longer than it usually took Oberon to descend upon them. Still, there had been no sharp pang of distress that had called to his Guide senses, so he did not feel too bad about letting her spend some time wandering before meeting her Guide.
It was not long before the Guide spied a tuft of white fur among the trees up ahead, and as he approached the mortal was revealed to him. Her attention was drawn by one of the many crystal clusters that lay scattered throughout the Forest grounds, as it pulsed softly with a lavender glow, and it seemed that she had not noticed his arrival. Clearing his throat softly, Oberon began with a gentle greeting. "Hello," he murmured, careful not to startle her. "Welcome to the realm of the gods." As Sundew stared at the purple crystal, she let her mind start to drift away. She had never been particularly attentive, and it was not uncommon to catch her in a daydream. The violet faded into the blue and indigo streams of light that stretched across the frozen sky of her homelands. Much of her early life had been spent laying back with her littermates peering up at the beautiful lights in the sky. With a sudden pang of sorrow, Sunny realized that she desperately missed her family. Their companionship had been instrumental to her good spirits in the mortal realm. While the past few days had been full of enough adventure to distract the young wolf, she knew that their presence in her life had been important to her happiness. Wolves were made to live in a pack - to love and care for their friends and family with a fierce devotion born of the knowledge that they could only truly survive and prosper together. Would she ever be able to see them again? Sundew couldn't really remember how she had come to be in these lands. She had seen something, a creature unlike any other that she could not describe. Then curiosity haad seized her and away she had run. But where? How? What passage had she trodden? Perhaps she was stuck here, never to see her family again. It was difficult to despair. She truly did love this place. Besides, she had already met quite a few interesting wolves. Why just earlier that day she had killed an elk with a big old black male in order to feed a scrawny little pup. Her belly was still swollen with meat, her face and chest lightly streaked with brown, dried blood that had been missed during her first grooming session. Despite her homesickness, she was content. For some reason, she wasn't surprised at all when she heard the voice behind her shoulder. Rather than startling her, it seemed as if the voice belonged to the forest like it was no more to worry about than the fiddling of crickets or the singing of cicadas. She turned slowly to face the wolf, jaws already parting in a small canine grin. He was like Myrr, who she had hunted elk with, but as a mountain was to a hill. Both had been dark, but this strange wolf was the rich hue of freshly dug soil. His eyes were so bright an orange they seemed to glow against his dark coat. Most shocking of all was his massive size. "Hello, hello," she sang out merrily as she faced him. "You're quite the big handsome boy, aren't you?" She allowed her eyes to range lazily across his body, taking in the muscles that bulged visibly beneath his thick coat. Sunny had always been a big fan of a nice male physique, and her life in her small, family-based pack had not exposed her to many eligible males. To her eyes, this dark wolf was quite eligible indeed. At his next words, she perked her ears and set up taller. She had known this place was strange. There was evidence for that everywhere. With an internal shiver, she remembered the odd way the elk earlier that day had folded to the ground, almost as if surrendering voluntarily to death. yes, things were strange here. "It's true then? One hears rumors, of course, but it's nice to have it confirmed, especially by a handsome wolf. I find it much easier to listen to attractive wolves, don't you?" Once again, her mouth seemed to be running away from her, even by Sundew's standards. She was incapable of curbing or disguising her thoughts and opinions. Instead, they spilled unencumbered from her tongue. Embarrassed by her obvious attraction, Sundew covered up her discomfort by laughing. "Oh I do natter on, don't I? My name is Sundew. Who are you?"664 WORDS FOR Ray ― don't worry about it!

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","ilostyou"] The female turned around lazily to face him, and her languid manner elicited a disconcerting flashback of Neith's initial demeanor upon meeting him for just a second. But the smile on her face seemed less besotted and a little more easygoing, as if this wolf was just pleased about existence in general, which was definitely rare among new arrivals to this realm. Still, it was not unwelcome - it seemed he would not need to worry himself with calming this mortal down, as she looked to be as calm and content as someone who had never been plucked so cruelly from the comfort of her home only to be transplanted onto the surface of a completely foreign world.
Her voice rang out brightly in the quiet woods. She spoke ever so appreciatively of his appearance as her lavender eyes roved across his figure, and Oberon's skin prickled self-consciously - her admiration seemed well-meaning, but he wasn't used to hearing a wolf speak about his looks so bluntly. The Guide liked to think of himself as possessing some sort of rugged machismo, what with the hulking size of his form and the wild mane-like ruff that crested his neck and shoulders, but it was unexpected to hear someone actually point it out and expound on it, much less a young, exuberant mortal female. He could feel his skin flushing, and was grateful for the thickness of his fur that would hide the instinctive reaction.
But, looking past the extravagant flattery she had so nonchalantly bestowed upon him, the Guide also noticed that she mentioned having heard rumors. Which perhaps hinted at the idea that she had already met some of the other gods-to-be who were slowly populating the mortal realm. It seemed she had already been here for much longer than he had expected, which made the Guide feel a little guilty. He should have noticed her arrival, but somehow she had slipped past his radar, and even managed to meet others before he had gotten to her. Thankfully the young female seemed unharmed, but Oberon did feel somewhat at fault for delaying her reception. The fur along her jaw and belly showed signs of a meal, and he was just relieved that whatever prey she had wrangled, it had not managed to maim her.
"I am Oberon, God of Earth, and your Guide in this realm." He inclined his head in a bow, figuring she would appreciate that sort of thing. "I would like to apologise for my tardiness. I should have met you earlier." His deep voice carried an undercurrent of contrition. But the female - Sundew, she had said - seemed extremely at peace with her current situation, so despite his guilt, the Guide was not too distraught. Thankfully, the big wolf didn't seem too visibly upset by her brash words and flirtations. Of course, there was something so fine and stoic about him that Sunny couldn't be quite sure. He was unlike any wolf she had ever met. Power seemed to hang off of him like leaves on a tree. She wondered at it. He was big, sure, but not that big. Besides, it didn't remind her of a power derived from physical strength. It was something else. Pepper, the little, grizzled pup she had met earlier that day, had had a trace of power to her. When the elk had kneeled before Myrr's jaws, Sundew had instinctively looked toward Pepper, not the adult wolf. Perhaps it had something to do with him being God of Earth. That was a large task and Sunny, suddenly hyper-aware of the press of soil beneath her paws, wondered if that meant she too had power over earth. Her pondering was disturbed by Oberon's lovely bow. her heart gave a little flutter, and a giggle escaped her lips. She did so love a man with manners. The more she saw of this great hulking beast of a brute, the more certain she became that she liked his style. And to think - he was her guide! She hoped she didn't have to share him with too many other wolves. Well, even if he was the guide for all the other wolves in the realm, she bet he didn't apologize half so prettily to all the rest. And for what? Being late? Ha! If Sunny punished him for that she would be, unequivocally, a hypocrite. "Don't be silly! We hardly had an appointment, how could you be late?" Sundew stopped, concerned. "Did we have an appointment?" She had forgotten more than one important occasion, a rather impressive feat when your whole world is composed of yourself and your extended family. Now her world was composed of so much more - places, sights, and wolves that she would never have imagined seeing even days ago. She couldn't wait to find out what else there was on this plane of existence. Joy bubbled up through her being until she laughed. "If I had known you were waiting for me I would have come sooner!" She winked extravagantly. Oh, gods, that was embarrassing. Why, oh why, had she done that? Sunny's violet eyes blanked out momentarily as the little hamster that powered her mind scrambled desperately to get it moving again. "Urm, anyway. god of earth? That sounds nice. Am I god of that too? Do you have to like dirt? I guess I don't mind it..." She peered down at the soil between her paws rather dubiously. 467 WORDS FOR Ray ― awkward post, sorry.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","ilostyou"] Though Oberon had been feeling quite apologetic for having left the female to go for so long without a guide in this new world, her good-natured dismissal did assauge his concerns some. "Did we have an appointment?" And it seemed that it was her turn to be a little worried. He hastened to reassure her. "No, no. I only mean that it is my job to receive newcomers to this realm, to ensure they do not come to any harm before they are sufficiently oriented. I hope you did not encounter anything too dangerous." Nevertheless, her words did put his concerns at ease, and he allowed a grateful half-smile to play at the edges of his mouth.
She continued to speak and the Guide listened amiably, even as the topic of her speech meandered about just a tad. The tone of her voice was pleasant, though, and he got the impression that she was just an easygoing wolf overall. Which, of course, boded well for her future in the god realm - he hoped. She seemed like one who would thrive in the company of others, and he was hopeful that perhaps she could be the glue that held others together, helped them work with each other. Some mortals were born leaders, like the fiery young female he had met in this very forest, and others were unapologetic loners, which he could definitely respect. But wolves like her were important, if not integral to provide support and encouragement to others. Or at least that was the impression he was getting from her. Oberon didn't usually feel so strongly about a wolf's persona before even having learned their name, but a general vibe of comfort seemed to radiate from her. Perhaps it would reveal itself as part of her aspect later on.
"Do not worry, young one. Your aspect is not Earth. At least, I don't think so." His deep voice was tinged with gentle amusement, even as the Guide allowed himself to put on a little show for her benefit. The soil at her feet rippled fluidly like the surface of a lake and little pebbles began to leap out, arcing over her paws like miniature fish before dropping back into the earth. "You have been called here to realise your power. That is the first step on the journey you will undertake." Withdrawing his consciousness from the display, the earth returned to its solid state, and the pebbles jumped no more.
Before they proceeded any further, though, he needed to ask her something important. "Since I am to be your Guide, may I ask you for your name?" Recalling some of his previous charges, Oberon was determined not to make the same mistake again. How indeed could he have forgotten to learn some of their names? He knew some of their initial meetings had not exactly been smooth sailing, but it was rather unprofessional of him to completely neglect it. Post by Sundew on Aug 5, 2018 23:39:18 GMT
[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","sunny"] Sundew started slightly as the dirt between her paws began to ripple like a lake. Her shock had turned to giggles by the time little fish began to jump over her paws. She had never seen anything like it! Of course not! It was magic, wasn't it? There had been no magic in the tundra, no wonder. The earth had never sloughed it's form to mirror the beautiful world around it. Only a god could make it do that. Sundew glanced up at the over-sized god through lowered lashes. She had admired him before his display of skill - it was hard not to with those glowing orange eyes and deliciously bulky shoulders - but now she saw him as more than just a prettily wrapped carcass. He had power, power like no wolf she had ever seen. Who cared that Marrow, the most eligible bachelor in the whole tundra, claimed to have killed a bull moose himself? Even if it hadn't been a lie, that was nothing compared to controlling earth. Sundew felt her heart flutter. If she had been of a more dramatic persuasion, she might have swooned. As it was she fell back on an old standard and laughed. Shocking. "Of course you can! Silly me, just blathering on... I'm Sundew of the Elk Jaw Pack."Suddenly, a realization hit the young wolf. She had met other wolves here, it was true, but not many. Certainly, none that she had ever met before, and she was even more certain that she was farther from home than any wolf of her pack had ever been. For some reason, Sundew doubted that any amount of walking could get her home. It had not been walking that brought her here. Not normal walking anyway. The journey was confused and muddle in her mind, receding more and more into the mists of memory as every day passed. Soon, Sundew thought, it will be like I was never anywhere else at all. An unfamiliar feeling began to snake its way stealthily from the very pit of her stomach. At first, Sundew had been so excited for her new adventure that she had hardly spared a thought for her family except to rehearse the tales she would tell them. Now, she began to wonder if she would ever speak to them again. Despite her naturally easy-going nature, Sundew was wolf enough to know that all true happiness comes from the pack. How can I? she realized as she turned her violet eyes on Oberon. When was the last time he had returned home? She had never heard a tale of god visiting their family. She had never heard tales of gods having any family that weren't other gods, and it seemed unlikely that her whole pack would be elevated to a status of potential godhood. Snows, she could still hardly believe she had been elevated to that position. She sounded more shocked than sorrowful as she asked, "I - I'm never going to see them again, am I?" It wasn't a real question. Sundew already knew the answer. That strange emotion, so little encountered, reared back its ugly head and struck quickly before the moment could pass. Sorrow flooded over her, drawing out even Sundew exuberant joy and excitement for new opportunities. What did it matter what powers she might develop? None of them could possibly be worth the loss of her family. Dismayed, but unwilling to embarrass herself further before the handsome god, she tucked her muzzle into the feathery fluff of her chest, avoiding his gaze. tags: Ray words: 606 notes: [newclass=.sunny]max-height:400px;color:#000;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#ededed;opacity:.7[/newclass] [newclass=.sunny b]color: #d03d72;text-shadow: 0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;font-size:11px;[/newclass] [newclass=.sunny i]color:#d03d72; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.sunny::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.sunny::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.sunny::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]
