One moment she was wandering a dense forest, hoping to find a stretch of territory to call her own. She’d been mentally fuming about her parents and about her siblings’ haste in leaving her by herself when they could have been a decent pack by themselves. That meant she maybe wasn’t paying close enough attention to where she was putting her paws, and she ended up tumbling downhill.
Fortunately, the moss and undergrowth underneath her was relatively soft. Unfortunately, the roots and trees and rocks she bumped into were less so, and a chorus of grunts and yelped accompanied her descent. The slope seemed to stretch downward forever. It felt like she’d been falling forever until she finally rolled to a stop on a bed of sand.
Wait, what?
Her body didn’t want to cooperate with her. Not at first. She let herself just lay there for a moment or two, getting her bearings and catching her breath as best she could. Then she tested her limbs and tail. Bruised, definitely, but nothing seemed broken… Breathing was painful, but she could do it, and the pain was more of an ache than anything stabby.
Then she stood. That took some effort - she might have twisted her back right ankle in the fall – but she managed to get her paws underneath her, and from there she looked around. Her gaze lingered on the ocean. Where…what was this place? This wasn’t any part of the forest she’d ever seen before. In fact, looking around, she couldn’t even find the hill she’d fallen down. That shouldn’t be possible! And she should be able to at least recognize something – this whole area was alien!
Where was this? What was this? The thought that it might be a dream occurred to her, but she dismissed it. In her dreams, she pretty much never felt pain. When it was present, it was usually right before waking up, and she wasn’t waking up.
Well, she wasn’t going to get any answers just standing there. She started walking along the beach, glancing around and sniffing the air frequently as she moved, ears perked and alert for any sound. If something was going to come at her, she’d need the most advance warning she could get.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","fairyking"] The land felt hungry, of late. Its energy churned with anticipation, as if it were preparing to begin... something. The Guide wrinkled his nose in trepidation. He would not call it fear, but there was a distinct hesitance that tugged at his belly in response to the realm's initial machinations. He could just about vaguely recall the last time something similar to this had happened, and it had been... tumultuous, perhaps, would be a good way to describe it.
For the land had a consciousness of sorts, a mind of its own. Something within it - or above it, or perhaps the land itself? - thrummed like a heartbeat, and if he focused on its aura it would ebb and flow like a giant's breath. Though mortals would not hear it unless it wanted to be heard. Which is what it prepares to do right now, he muttered under his breath, sturdy legs picking up the pace as he set forth toward the mortal lands. The Guide could already feel that a new presence had arrived, pulled in by the realm's greedy grasp. One of the first, but there would surely be more soon. He had better deal with this one while he still had time.
His awareness of the new arrival led him to the Broken Coast, its seemingly endless waters calm and quiet, gently washing over the sandy shore. A distance away he spied the newcomer following the curve of the beach, though it was likely they had not spotted him yet - there was only the slightest hint of a breeze, and it blew inward from the sea, carrying his scent inland and nowhere near the other wolf's nose. They seemed to be limping a little, as if their body had taken some damage, though he didn't see any blood or significant maiming injury. The Guide suspected that their discomfort had something to do with the land's calling - though the domain had an awareness, he had the sense that if it had ever been mortal, it had lost that memory long ago, and it had the tendency to spare little consideration for how it chose to bring its subjects in. Wincing a little sympathetically, the Guide advanced toward the water's edge to meet the newcomer.
As he drew closer the wind changed its direction, and the scent of a female wolf came to him on the breeze. Likely the wind would change again and she would smell - and hear - him approaching, though he'd noticed that gods (even gods who had been wolves, once upon a time) tended to smell a little different from mortal wolves. He'd noticed both his own scent and the smells of the others in his pantheon had changed as they changed, with the introduction of something akin to the sharp smell of lightning before a storm. So although his appearance betrayed little about his godhood, his scent would always indicate something was different.
At length he was within speaking distance from the female, though the Guide felt hesitant to call out to her. He'd see how her temperament was first, if she was hostile or not, before he extended information regarding the lands and her calling. For he was there to help, no matter her inclinations. That was the duty of a Guide, after all. So he drew to a halt, and waited to be seen. She wasn’t sure how long she’d been walking before she picked up on the fact that she wasn’t alone, but eventually the wind changed and a scent reached her nose. It smelled of wolf…a bit, but there was a hint of other about it that she’d never scented on another of her kind before. Of course wolves held variances in their scents, but this indicated something else – something greater, perhaps? It made her hackles and tail lift and her muscles tense. Such movement made her wince – the soreness still clung to her muscles and bones – and she attempted to force her fur and muscles to relax (with limited success), trying to work out what she was experiencing. There was something about the mystery wolf and something about this land that offered endless questions with no apparent answers. Eventually, she saw the wolf-plus-other – a dark shape with a prominent mane and eyes that seemed to glow. She froze in place there, studying the other wolf. He was no normal wolf – that “other” about him indicated a power greater than she could match. Should he attack, she’d be hard-pressed to defend herself. However, he wasn’t attacking. He also wasn’t talking. He was just standing there…why? She supposed it was her move. What could she do? She didn’t trust him – that scent was too unknown to invite any measure of trust. She also didn’t want a fight – wouldn’t want one even without the scent bothering her. So what did she want? …She wanted to get through this peacefully, and maybe find some answers. And she should probably make sure she hadn’t accidentally trespassed somewhere. She’d scented no borders, but something strange was happening here, and anything seemed possible. She made another effort to flatten her fur, and her ears along with it. She hunched slightly, tucking in her tail, and dipped her head to the other wolf. There were just times when submitting was the only smart thing to do. “I’m Quartz,” she offered after a moment. If she was going to try for answers from her apparent companion, it would at least be good to know what to call each other. “I find myself in this land unwillingly – if it is yours, I will gladly leave it.” Ray

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","fairyking"] Presently, the female began to notice his presence. He saw the way her fur had stood up all down her back and bristled once she'd scented him, a faint smile of amusement passing over his muzzle. It had been a while since mortals had crossed over, calling or not, and the sight of a new wolf on their shores was almost refreshing. All the realms, mortal and god both, had been quiet for a very long time - he had known others too, from his era long ago, but their time had been a violent one, and before long the lands had returned to their empty stillness. All of them still thriving and beautiful in their own ways, but bearing no signs of wolves, mortal or deity. He did know of several remaining gods and guides who resided in the god realms but their locations were not privy to him, as he figured they knew of how to control their visible signatures, or perhaps the realm itself hid them from him.
The newcomer stood before him for a long moment, her eyes fixed on him. The Guide could sense her distrust, but he remained still until she decided on how to proceed. After all, it was the beginning of her journey, not his. The choices were hers, he was just there to inform.
Soon her stillness gave way to submission, and he wondered if that was a slight tinge of hesitation he was sensing. But then the female introduced herself as Quartz, and proceeded to explain the circumstances leading to her appearance on the beach. He allowed a soft smile to play upon his face then at her words.
"My name is Oberon." The Guide made sure to meet her eyes with his for a solid moment before glancing back inland. "You need not submit, this is not my land." His gaze swept over the visible terrain before returning to rest on her visage. "And you need not leave, either." Nor would she easily be able to, he thought, but she didn't need to know that yet. In fact, he knew not of any mortal who had succeeded in leaving this land yet.
"You must have questions. I am here to give you answers," Oberon said as he inclined his head, indicating that she should ask. There was far too much information for him to unload onto a mortal's mind at one go, so he would allow her to direct the conversation along the lines of what she needed to know. The male…smiled? Hn…she didn’t know what to think of that. Was he amused at her, or was it kindness? She dared not hope for the latter. Assuming any kind of good intent from a complete stranger was foolish. Assuming any kind of good intent from anyone could be foolish too, but she did her best to force that thought away. Those pains were part of the recent past, but still the past. Right now, she had to deal with the present. She could dwell when she was sure she was safe. He introduced himself. Oberon… That name sounded oddly familiar, but any memory of it was quite faint and impossible to trace. It was likely she was thinking of another Oberon, anyway, though she couldn’t remember a single wolf in or near her family pack with any name sounding remotely close to that. She shivered a little at the prolonged eye contact, and was grateful when he looked away. What was it about this wolf that she was detecting but not identifying? The other wolf had looked inland, and she followed his gaze, curious. Were there others here? But she couldn’t see, hear, or smell anyone else... And he was talking again, so she ripped her gaze from the landscape and focused on him once more, listening closely. So…this wasn’t his land, and she was free to be here? Was it unclaimed, then? She supposed it must be – it was too open for most prey to be comfortable here. She probably wouldn’t linger more than necessary either, open or not. There had to be an available stretch of land with a proper amount of prey within it somewhere. If there was, she’d find it. He spoke again, saying he was here to give answers. Had he somehow read her mind, earlier? Or was falling out of a forest and into a distant beach the norm here? She regarded him for a moment – could she trust him to tell the truth? But he hadn’t tried to harm her or anything…what would it benefit him to mislead her now? And it wasn’t like she had other options before her. She didn’t know where she was, who or what he was, or anything about anything here. Whatever he might tell her, it would at least give her a starting point to figure out the rest. “I have a world of questions,” she responded, looking around. Where did she even begin? There was one thing that had been nagging at her since she noticed him, she supposed…that made as good a starting place as any. “And it’s…incredibly fortunate that you happen to be here with answers. You’re no normal wolf, are you?” Ray

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","fairyking"] Apprehension radiated off this female in waves, both through her aura that Oberon could sense as well as in the way she acted. It was understandable, and the Guide respected her wariness for it hinted at a good sense of self-preservation. A strange wolf-yet-not appearing before you in a land you hadn't been on for very long at all? He didn't expect her to trust him at all, of course, but Oberon hoped she would try to. The large male didn't know about how other Guides conducted their business, but he did consider it his duty to assist in any way he could. Absently he wondered if there were other Guides who roamed with the intention to mislead mortals. Did such Guides even exist? He'd have to ponder that, once he was alone again.
"You're no normal wolf, are you?" Quartz had asked, and Oberon nodded. "Astute observation," he replied gravely, though the corners of his eyes crinkled the slightest bit. "But since you are here, neither are you. Simply put, I am a god. In time, you will be one too. My role is to guide you." His words were spoken candidly to avoid offering an overload of information at once, though Oberon was pretty sure that a mortal would still find such a concept hard to believe no matter how succinct or elaborate his initial explanation might be. Telling someone you are a god is one thing. Telling someone they are a god is something else entirely.
"For example, I am a god of Earth." Reaching into the earth with his consciousness, the Guide sent out a wave of energy, causing the surface of the sand they stood on to ripple outwards from where his paws were planted, like a lake once a fish has broken its mirror-smooth surface. "I know not what you will be god of yet, but I am here to guide you as you discover that -- should you wish to." His last line came with a wry smile, but Oberon did not expound further yet as to why just yet - he'd let her digest whatever he had just said first. @quartz | 363 | god my RPing is really rusty, sorry ;_; |

Right off the bat he’d shocked her. Her legs felt weak, and sheer willpower kept her from falling into a sitting or laying position from the revelation. A…god? Really and truly? It was unbelievable, and she’d scoff at most wolves claiming such things. For Oberon, though, she knew the truth through her senses and…her soul, she supposed. That must be what the other about him indicated. The scent that was off, that hunted at power beyond hers. It made too much sense to deny. But…then he claimed she was one as well. Well…that she would be. Was that possible? She steeled her heart, not daring to trust in that statement. No, it wasn’t the trust she was fighting against. Not really. It was…hope? Hah…she was being ridiculous. And yet this situation was incredible on its own. This whole thing was something she’d need to think long and hard on, later. For now, she’d attempt to accept his words at face value and move on – storing the information in the middle of her mind to sort through and deal with when she felt safe enough to do so. There was a chance, after all. There was a chance he was being truthful – did he even have a reason not to? Whether she could believe it or not right now, she would listen and entertain the idea of being a sort of god-in-training, and see what he had to say. If it was truth, she would want to be a proper and responsible god. That meant everything he had to tell her was vitally important, and she had no idea how much of his time she was allowed before he had to return to his duties. She dipped her head and continued to listen as he spoke. God of Earth, hmm? He gave her a demonstration of his power, and she found a measure of her distrust melting away. That was a curious thing to be God of, though, and a thought wandered through her mind. “Were you the one that plucked me from the forest and brought me to this place, then? How can you tell a potential god-wolf from a pure mortal?” She shook her head. There were more important things to ask today, weren’t there? “If I really am able to become a god, I believe I’d like to – to keep more malicious god-wolves in check, if nothing else. What do I have to do?” Ray

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","fairyking"] It gratified him that Quartz was continuing to ask questions and wanting to learn more, despite her earlier apprehension. From the kinds of questions she was asking, this female seemed like she would be the kind to put her soul into becoming a being worthy of the divinity granted to her. That sort of individual was a relief to Oberon, for he had seen many to-be gods on their paths to ascension, and not all of them had been what he would consider worthy. After all, there was a reason the immortal realms were so empty at present.
"I did not bring you here, Quartz. You are here because of the power that lies within you." To what extent should he elaborate on that? After all, the path to ascension was one of discovery, and he would rather allow her to learn at her own pace than lead her the way he might have gone. "Your godhood is drawn to this realm. Ones without divinity would not have been able to come. But I suspect that were one to find themselves here, I would be able to sense their lack of potential, and hence their lack of need for a guide."
"That is all just an example, of course. The realm would not bring a pure mortal here, as there is no way back. They would have no purpose here." He hoped that statement would not alarm her, as he had known many new arrivals who had been intensely attached to their mortal homelands, and it had taken them a significant amount of time and effort to adjust to their new purpose. But her next question was a bit of a relief, as she expressed her concern about the existence of gods-to-be who had more malevolent ends in mind, with the intention of using their godhood for chaos and discord. Oberon found her sense of responsibility admirable, and allowed the corner of his mouth to quirk up in approval. It was unexpected for a newcomer to be so selfless right away - most would still be worrying for themselves and their past livelihood or still trying to wrap their minds around the entire concept of the divinity within them.
"Truly a noble purpose. You can, of course, if you so desire. It is a worthy cause to aspire to," Oberon informed her. "For now, take your time and learn. Grow familiar with your surroundings and explore. You will likely find others like you, striving towards godhood, and there is much that can be achieved together."
"Perhaps you could start by learning about what kind of God you may become, or what aspect you will come to have control of." The Guide paused his speaking then, to allow Quartz to digest what information he had dispensed. He didn't want to overwhelm her, though somehow he felt as if they were past that stage now. [newclass=.fairyking]height:435px;background-color:#000;color:#fff;opacity:.5;margin-top:10px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:420px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.fairyking b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#ac5d1d;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.fairyking i]color: #eb771d; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.fairyking::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.fairyking::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.fairyking::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

He said he didn’t bring her here…that her power brought her here? What sort of power was that, and why had it chosen that moment? Was it because she no longer had obligations to her pack at that moment? Did powers wait to manifest until a wolf’s second summer, or something? Anyway, he was continuing, telling her that only wolves with some divinity in them could find their way here. So everyone she would meet from now on was a potential god, then? She’d have to tread very carefully…as though she’d planned otherwise. He explained that there was no way back. She looked around – at the ocean, and further inland…the water was a definite barrier. Other such things must exist elsewhere. How much territory would she have to work with here? And…she’d never see anyone in her family again? She’d expected as much there, with her parents driving her and some of her siblings out of the territory and said siblings going their separate ways, but this made it almost definite. Almost because surely at least some of her family had…whatever this was within them, if she did. Maybe she’d even stumble upon them out here. Not that that was a likely event… “I had no specific destination in mind. I suppose here works as well as anywhere…” Maybe not here here, though. She wanted something perhaps a bit more lush than this sand bar for her home. In fact, this could be a very good thing for her. She’d definitely be away from the surrounding packs’ territories here. Depending on how empty the world was, it could be she had her pick of anything she wished. Later. She’d think on that later. “Thank you.” She dipped her head to him. Explore, take her time, learn, meet others…all things she likely would have attempted anyway. It would be wise to find some trustworthy wolves if she could manage it – a loose band sworn to watch each others’ backs and help with hunting and battles to keep everyone safe and healthy until they could do what they were destined to do here…and if it ended up being the pack she eventually wanted, then all the better. But that was another thing to think on and absorb later. Her head tilted to the side when he suggested she learn what type of god she’d become. “How do I figure out my aspect? It seems like there could be an endless amount to sort through.” That would be a problem...she could spent a whole lifetime trying and failing to find whatever she was meant to be the god of. Ray

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","fairyking"] Though Quartz seemed hesitant still, Oberon was glad to see that she was indeed receptive to what he had to tell her. "The lands of this domain are wide, and remain empty as of yet. You may make your home anywhere that suits you, although I would suggest looking around before deciding on here," he offered with a smile. She thanked him then, which he acknowledged with a lowering of his own great head. "You are welcome. I am here to help you," Oberon responded, shaking out the ruff of fur about his neck.
She then inquired how exactly to go about determining her aspect. "The exact process is different for each individual. Try to consider different elements and feelings, see what you feel pulled to. You will find that in this realm, the divinity within you is drawn to the aspect you will own." His tail moved behind him in a slow wag, recalling his own experience from what felt like an age ago. Though the Guide's mortal self had fancied perhaps his power might have been something intangible like time or space, after some time he'd discovered that nothing resonated with him as much as the solid mass of the earth, the steadiness of a mountain's deep roots and the low, rumbling pulse of liquid fire deep below. He'd also retroactively find memories of his puphood and adolescence resurfacing for him to see them in a different light, as if realising that the affinity for his aspect had been there all along. His mind wandered then to how more intangible aspects would manifest at all, and vaguely hoped hers would be something along that vein, so that perhaps he would have his curiosity sated.
At that point a sudden burst of existence on the far edge of his consciousness drew his attention from reminiscing, and Oberon knew then that the next of his charges had crossed the threshold. Even so, he was loathe to leave Quartz so quickly lest she found herself still unprepared to begin her journey, so he pushed the niggling sensation aside just for now.
"Have you any other questions for me at this time?" Of course, Oberon was sure that she would have much more to ask him, given the chance. But he also knew that one could stand to learn much about these divine realms just by experiencing it for themselves. "Remember that I am your guide, and as such you can always call me when you need help. The rocks and stones can hear you, after all." A roguish grin passed over his face at that, and he set one ear at a jaunty angle. It was a bit of a joke, of course, but he would be able to sense the call of a charge should they direct it towards his aspect, and the benefit of being a God of Earth was that your element was naturally everywhere. @quartz | 493 | sorry this took so long argjkads |
