[attr="class","hunt5"] In the early morning, golden light cast through the broad-leafed branches of the various trees that dotted the landscape, a singular creature moved through the fields of flowers. It stepped slowly and carefully, as if afraid of making noise. As it passed from shade to sun, the light passed through its white body, the flowers that acted as its shield suddenly viewable through the expanse of its body.
Abruptly, it shimmered and properly solidified. As it had many years before, the bull elk sought the place of its birth - though in this form, it was unaware of just how long ago that time had been. In truth, its kind had long ago abandoned these lands as calving grounds.
It was forever trapped in what had once been, driven by a desire that should have been discarded long ago.
At any other time, this would not have spelled its potential doom. The Guides were creatures without hunger, and they had grasped the true strength of their powers. But there were newcomers to these lands, and with the awakening of their divinity, they would be drawn to the elk, pushed by a once-unknown taste for the immortal. If they were to partake in its flesh, however ghostly its appearance, surely some sense of its otherness would transfer to them in turn.
But it was a bull elk, at the peak of its power. A singular wolf could not hope to fell it, and the creature felt no fear, no sense of paranoia that so often protected its kind, as it ambled through the flowers. Her sleeping schedule was beyond messed up, but so was her life in general. She wasn’t even sure what she thought of anything or everything right now. After meeting Oberon on the beach, her mind had been a whirl of confusion and feelings and overwhelming sensation, and all she could think to do about it was distract herself by traveling. She needed food and territory…and reliable friends, though that came secondary.
She’d slept on-and-off through the afternoon to the middle of the night and had been traveling during her waking moments. Now the sin was rising, and she found herself at the edge of a field full of snowdrops. It was…pretty here, and prey scent seemed reasonably plentiful. Maybe she should linger here, hunt, gain the strength she needed to a real journey or find a densite to settle at. After all, she couldn’t remember scenting any border markers on her way. This land seemed perfectly open and available so far.
Not that she could judge that right here on the edge. She stepped forward, continuing into the fields. It was a pleasant walk through here, sun and shade and sweet and musky scents dappled all over the place. If this area truly was empty, then perhaps she’d get lucky and prey would have no awareness of a predator being nearby until it was too late.
It didn’t take her long wandering through the field before an irresistible scent hit her nose. It was Elk, but it was also other. Curious…were they allowed to hunt such creatures?
They must be. The smell was so alluring that it just had to be edible. Anyway, if Oberon had a problem with it he would surely stop her. She maneuvered around the scent, trying to get to where she could approach the elk from downwind. As a lone wolf, she’d need whatever advantage she could gain. As it was, her chances were pretty much impossible, but perhaps luck would factor in on this day.

Pepper A salt-pepper bundle could be found within the mossy shelter of gnarled roots. Pepper had decided to keep to the Cradle after her eventful meeting passed. She had calmed somewhat, gotten a measly meal of wood mouse, then dug-up a den underneath this great guardian. Truth be told she was still starving; hunger pangs stabbed constantly, but no tantalizing scent was great enough to beckon the female away. That is, until a sweet musk found its way within her pit. It was intoxicating. Not only did it call to her hunger, but something about it drew the canine's very essence. Stilt-like limbs unfurled and produced the bony Pepper from her home. She had taken residence more within the center of this snowdrop sea as compared to the marred spot she originally came from. This gave her an ample radius for keen nostrils to pick through.
He wasn't far from her. Before setting out on this foolish endeavor, the experienced female made a point to roll within the abundant flowers. She had spent much time here, but one could never be too careful in disguising their own scent. It was tempting to take-off in the elk's direction, yet that was more hunger than sense talking. Instead, lightweight steps picked across the soft vegetation with intense concentration. Pepper was certainly not strong, but she had adept speed and agility on her side. Her technique favored smaller prey - it was a fool's errand to try luck with this specter. But, no matter how many mental lashings she gave herself, the feather-like paces continued forward. Upon entering the point where she could see the great beast within the distance, Pepper crouched low. It was a blessing to be among similar whites of the petals and she hoped they would bid her a successful approach. Her stealthy maneuvers kept the wolf within only the thickest patches of snowdrops. It was only once she had crept close enough to see the sheer might of the bull that hesitation occurred. There was no way she could take this behemoth alone; it would only serve to mangle her lanky body.
It was a disappointing truth, but the female would not risk dying over an impossible meal. Thus she simply kept her place and watched the magnificent herbivore in its grand actions. Pepper would of been content to simply observe, but it seemed luck was on her side. Another scent, strong and near, hit her nose. Olive gaze dug around until finally a dark-coated silhouette was found slinking around the bull. The stranger had just arrived downwind, where Pepper was, and was a mere few yards closer to the prey animal than she. From the looks of it, they were gonna take their chances alone.
Fear for the unknown female stirred within her chest, but she was sure to keep the relentless emotion from passing into physical actions. With a big swallow, the salt-pepper canine picked up motion once more. She wouldn't be able to communicate with the newcomer so close to the prey, but hopefully she could still lend a paw. Fanning out, Pepper took a new position East of the ghost-like creature; she wasn't upwind, but also no longer downwind either - a parallel position.

[attr="class","hunt5"] The bull paused in its wandering, nostrils flaring as it strove to catch any scents that wafted upon the air. It found only the sharp aroma of crushed petals, and it snorted – a great, trumpeting sound that shook through its entire body, ending in the agitated stomping of one hind hoof.
It threw its head back and cast its gaze around, seeking out the source of the pungent scent. In truth, it had not even considered wolves – instead, it was seeking the telltale signs of its brethren, the spoor of fellow elk.
A bellow issued from its throat, the pouchy skin of its neck shaking with the force of the roar – and then it paused, curled ears twitching back and forth as they sought out a response amongst the fields of flowers.
Not here, then. But further afield?
It stepped slowly now, cautiously – fearful of missing something that might signal its own kind and where they were newly-located.
Upon the round of its rump, its small tail flicked back and forth, driving away unseen flies.
For now, it was not conscious of the wolves, did not even begin to seek their presence. But that sixth sense that all prey animals possessed was beginning to awaken once more, taking note of the stillness of the clearing. Sooner or later, rationality would override its typical bravado and it would flee the quiet Cradle.

From a distance, crouched among the flowers so that they might hide her pelt and mask her scent Leyda watched. The heavy scent of elk and the otherness that seemed to suffuse living creatures around here had drawn her curiosity, and by extension roused the beast within her stomach. Now normally Leyda would have to be starving to death in order to risk going after such huge prey, but as two other wolves slunk closer she figured they would have a fighting chance at taking it down and that she would have a fighting chance at getting a good meal. With a practiced careful slink, Leyda maneuvered herself downwind from the elk and between the other two wolves, into a position she had held years ago but seemed to fit into like a hand to a worn leather glove. Eyes flicking back and forth between the two seemingly normal other wolves she waited to see who would take the lead and begin the chase. ooc: Leyda Farstride joined your party!Pepper @quartz Lirriel

As she stalked the elk, two others joined her – a rather starved-looking salt-and-pepper who immediately fanned out and a multi-colored who took the middle position. Well, if they were willing to cooperate then they could share the elk. She certainly couldn’t eat the whole thing herself, even if she wanted to.
Their prey paused, and she did as well, lowering herself as much as she felt she could without rustling the flowers and other plantlife beneath her. She kept her gaze on the elk, her whole being still and silent as she could manage while she waited. Had he seen them? Scented them?
Then he snorted and stomped. She tensed, ready to fight or flee if she needed. The elk looked around and bellowed, and then seemed to listen for something. So…that hadn’t been about them? But she didn’t like his new cautious gait. They would have to do this quickly or carefully…both, if they could manage it.
She resumed walking after he had taken several steps. Just walking, but only until she could spot a couple trees in the distance. An elk was likely to outrun them in the open, but if they could chase him toward one of those trees, that would at least slow him down. Maybe they’d even get lucky and he’d stumble on a root, giving them the time they needed to surround him.
She spared a final glance over at her companion, just long enough to note their position. Then her pace quickened. Her intent was to get as close as she felt she could manage without him noticing and then charge forward, jaws closing on or near a hind leg. If her bite connected, great. If it caused significant damage, even better. If it missed…at least she’d be driving him forward – toward that tree if all went well. And if he didn’t take the desired path, perhaps he’d run toward her companions, and they could all bring him down quickly.

Pepper Stilt-like limbs paired with a scrawny build constructed a specimen adept for speed. Each step could be drawn akin to a silent mouse stepping its way across the flowery field. Pepper, within her three years of life, had been apart of many hunts with her mother. Typically, the skeleton-sculpted wolf had been the lead while the matriarch always ambushed. Today seemed to be a completely different game, though. Never was their prey a bull elk nor did they ever go-in without a mutual plan. The salt-pepper canine was versed in hunting, but this seemed dangerous. Still, it seemed Morpheus was still around for the horned ghost sent forth another to aid them. This newcomer noticed the other two off the bat which was a relief; this task didn't need to be any harder for the trio.
Bland olive eyes took note of each female and they way they moved their bodies forward. It was important that only the most experienced took point toward the front. A bull could easily end their life. These strangers seemed at least knowledgeable of what they were doing, but Pepper had a sinking feeling that she was the eldest of these hunters. It stirred up fear within her heart, yet the feeling was quickly squished. There would be time afterward to panic; right now it was imperative to get serious. Emotions were dropped one-by-one until naught but a determined focus remained. Elongated appendages stalked forward until not but a great leap separated predator from prey.
It was at this moment that the dark-coated female burst forward and Pepper quickly followed in-turn. Picking up speed was easy as was splitting the distance until her own lithe from ran beside specter elk. It seemed the goal was heading it toward the forest. Smart. It would give the three smaller creatures better terrain over the big beast. With this destination in mind, practiced pace kept to the side of their target. Pepper was thankful to be blessed with great agility in trade for her lack of strength, thus she set it as her personal task to make sure the elk didn't turn away from the upcoming forest. Nips would be clipped into its side before her body swiftly danced out of range - this process was repeated multiple times to keep him on-track. If he pushed against her then the bites would be more fierce and likely to break past the hide.
In every action, however, the canine would be sure to break away if a sign of trouble reared its head. A meal would be nice but not at the risk of her own body.

[googlefont=Montserrat] [attr="class","hunt"] [attr="class", "godling"]Spirit Bull Elk Challenge Rating: Hard HP: 50 / 75 Reward: 30 EVO Points [attr="class","hunt5"] It did not recognize the danger upon it until slashing fangs had buried into the meat of his thigh – the impact of a wolven body, crashing into its own, as well as the sudden surge of pain, caused him to buckle. A shocked cry ripped free of its throat, even as it turned its neck back, to find its ghostly coat solidifying as godly fangs ripped into its hide. Spectral blood, a burning red that blushed blue around the edges, splattered across the snowdrops, dipping some with the heaviness of the sudden blood flow. In truth, it was unable to run, only managing to stagger away from the wolf that hung from its hind, pain receptors overriding any coherent thought that struggled to emerge. Briefly, it was stunned, and so the second wolf likewise surprised it. Her attack dealt less damage, but she was unrelenting, darting close and drawing blood before leaping away, never allowing the bull enough time to respond. Ultimately, all it could do was struggle weakly, shaking the first attacker off its flank and hurrying away, driven by fear toward the treeline. It stumbled, hobbled, lifting its wounded hind leg clear of the ground – already it was so heavily injured. It managed only a few more hopping steps before it turned to face the hunters that chased it, lowering its crown of antlers to ward the wolves off, breathing heavily. It knew enough to know that it could not run in its ruined state – but it could certainly defend itself, shaking its head aggressively at the predators that came for it. It had been unable to respond to the previous attacks on it, but now it was alerted and tense – ready to respond in kind toward any further aggression. ooc: attack rolls. quartz managed a critical hit on it that left it unable to attack back. this let pepper get in a number of good hits, equaling a huge chunk of health taken off and the wolves spotless! Leyda ducked behind the treeline, keeping herself hidden from view. Internally she berated herself for not lunging forward like the others, but this left an excellent opening for her. With the elk and it's horns preoccupied on defending from the others she could sneak behind and luck be upon her sever the tendons in its's back legs. Or at the least get a good hit on it and keep their quarry within range in the clearing. Keeping herself as low and undetectable as possible she slunk between the trees carefully lining herself up. There was only one shot to take, and any mistakes would result in death at the worse or unconsciousness from a bull elk kick to the head at the very best. Finally spotting her opening Leyda shot for it, paws hitting the ground, once, twice, before leaving it all together as she lept for the elk's hindquarters, aiming to sink her claws into it's flesh and hopefully score a hit worth of the risk of going for its powerful hind legs. @quartz Pepper Lirriel

Pepper Pepper could of stayed right on top of the bull elk with the way it hobbled away, but she was smart enough to give the wounded creature space. This caution was rewarded when the great behemoth turned on them - antlers lowered and prepped for a retort. A cockier wolf might of dashed forward anyways; thankfully she wasn't that type. Instead the salt-pepper female kept the yards between predator and prey the same. Instead her bony silhouette picked slowly to the right side of the specter whilst focused eyes kept it pinned for any movement. They had gotten lucky, yet that was no reason to celebrate. It was still imperative that each of them gave this beast the respect it deserved. This meant practicing a certain weary and going in with a plan. It seemed the eldest of them had already thought ahead - avoiding the initial attack and going when their prey was utterly distracted. Pepper gave her a mental kudos.
Her own strategy relied on the two things that she excelled at: observation and agility. While positioned to the right flank of the bull she would wait. He couldn't aim for both her and the obsidian-coated female, thus it was only a matter of time that either the onyx or multi-colored canine drew its attention. When those horns and aged eyes turned away, only then would the fleet-pawed Pepper leap in and dig saliva-slicked incisors into the meat of his shoulder. If his anger turned on her then she would quickly attempt to dance once more out of reach only to repeat the process all over again.
