Pepper Cold relief crashed into the tentative wolf as a familiar white broke into the blackness of the forest. Otherworldly antlers poked up from the newcomer's cranium - there was no mistaking who it was. Morpheus had answered Pepper's plea for help. Unremarkable olive irises connected momentarily with that of the deity; a thankful expression contorted hard folds of the female's facial features. It was good to see her Guide again. Perhaps in other circumstances, she would of hopped over to him like a pup greeting their father. Share all that she had discovered thus far. But not today. An obedient nod was given toward his request whilst her maroon-stained form settled back on frail haunches. Pepper had confidence in her mentor's abilities, even if she hadn't seen them in action before.
Turns out she should of worried a bit more. Morpheus slung himself at the head of the great sow like a sacrificial lamb. Horror immediately knotted the salt-pepper canine's throat. So enthralled was she with this terrible scene, she barely noticed the appearance of the second God. Everything happened quickly after that. Earth moved. Her companions leapt in. The boar passed all her judgement to the ghost-coated dreamer. The skeleton wolf had done all she could, but it didn't feel like enough. Especially when Morpheus was being beaten as savagely as he was. The gilt was looking rough, but so was the majority of their group. It would only take a bit more to bring her down and she prayed that it would end before anyone else was ripped open.
Pepper couldn't do much in her current state, trembling and wounded, but she would at least try to help. There was an attempt to catch the boar's good eye. If and when the fragile membrane faced her, she would use a fore to sling a clump of dirt toward it. The action most likely wouldn't do any damage, but Pepper hoped it would be distraction enough until the others swiftly finished it off.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","callisto"] The moments following the blow to her cheek passed in a gut-wrenching haze of stars and color. It hadn’t hurt so much as it had stunned her, but that was enough for her to retreat a bit for now. Her paws unconsciously lead her a safe distance away, gait a drunken stumble. She attempted to catch her bearings once more, ears pricked to the distressing sounds of the struggle. Distantly, she heard something that sounded like the earth growling but wasn’t sure whether to attribute it reality or imagination. When she felt that her pathetic body would finally obey her commands, she lifted her head to survey the scene.
“For fuck’s sake,” she whispered upon seeing a familiar pair of horns.
The alabaster bastard from before was perched ridiculously on the sow’s face, his body being smashed against the ground in retaliation. He was getting a beatdown, but intuition told her that it wouldn't last for long. The sow was weakening, dying. It was about time. Licking her lips in satisfaction, Callisto rejoined the fight in order to witness and aid in bringing about the terrible creature’s final moments. She launched herself at the forelimb opposite of the other dark female and tore in with a punishing savagery in hopes of disabling the limb.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","socold"] The last attempts to save itself were unfolding for the boar. Zora watched as Morpheous was forced downward while she tore at the limb. Stepping onto her right paw however was causing a jolt of pain despite the hormones and shock of the battle. It wasn’t difficult for her to adjust how the weight was balanced. But breathing was starting to ache, more so with jaws closed around the leg. Suddenly she released her grip, ready to seize the opportunity sighted and hopefully allow Morpheous some reprieve. Keeping her ears low and tail close for added protection she stepped forward, toward her aim.
With the boar pushing her face and tusks down on Morpheous, the hope was that her aim would be true and quick enough. Zora’s path was the jugular. A first bite and then she attempted to readjust closer in and under. Cream top and white bottomed muzzle would attempt to clamp around the vital area and help to end the vengeful sow. She wanted it dead, the others around her deserved to feast for all the pain, blood, and work put in.

[attr="class","hunt5"] The wolves fell upon her like a horde. Before, at the beginning of the battle, they had felt like little more than overly-large, overly-zealous flies. Each had been a parasitic nuisance, insistent upon her flesh – but ensured certain death, given patience. But with her back legs ruined, with a horned abomination hanging from her face, with the sudden pillar of packed earth and molded stone that had jammed itself up and into her lungs – she felt the first flash of fear. And once she felt it, she was unable to escape it. It overtook her much as a flash flood might, suddenly swamping her, dropping her to the ground. The wolves that found her front legs dropped her heavily, and though her head shoved the white god down, it lacked the previous force she had wielded. All she could managing was the snuffling scream she imagined her children had given as each was mercilessly cut down by a wolf. Where there’s one, there’s always another, she thought, even as her eyes grew heavy, even as her blood soaked the ground, red-smeared mud caking her underside. Like rats. With her final acceptance of her fate, what strength she still held faded away, and something warm and liquid spread through her. Pain still battered her senses but it was… blunted, almost. As if her failing consciousness had erected one last barrier, that she might slip away in peace. It was difficult to tell when she truly died, but slowly a silence fell over the clearing, an immutable presence telling the wolves to cease. Enough, it said. She is gone. All that remained of the great sow was her body, her blood, her bones. Consume her, the divinity within each whispered, and grow stronger. ooc: wolf attack rolls. Ding dong, the witch is dead! Everything seemed to happen in a single instant. The other dark she-wolf mirrored her attack, and they tore at the sow’s forelimbs together. Meanwhile, someone else went for her throat. Pepper had thankfully backed off for the time being. Quartz demanded that any companions of hers do their share of the work, but Pepper had. She’d gotten injured for it to the point where Quartz had worried for her life.
Now the sow was dead. Well, dead again. She sensed rather than saw the death, but she knew it to be true as easily as she knew her own name. Now it would be time for them to feast – they’d certainly earned this kill.
But Quartz held off. The feeling urging her to consume her kill would just have to go ignored for a few moments. She dipped her head to each of the gods, starting with the one that served as her guide. As far as she was concerned, it was their right to feed first. Then she turned her attention to Pepper, and would spend a couple moments lapping at her wounds if the emaciated wolf would allow it. She’d been the worst hurt, and she was the mortal that Quartz trusted most out of those assembled. The last thing she wanted was for Pepper to end up in even worse shape.
That would be all the delay she’d allow herself, though. Once the gods had their chance to feed and Pepper was seen to or declined any help, then Quartz would step forward and eat her share of the kill. Maybe she’d been the least hurt by the vile thing (aside from Oberon, who hadn't been touched), but she’d certainly done her share of damage, and she certainly deserved a portion of the reward. She was caring, not generous.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] The beating she placed upon him was brutal. He felt it, with each heavy smash of her head, against rock, against ground, against whatever surface she found suitable to smear him against. But he held on, his teeth aching, threatening to rip out at the roots, as she continued her rampage against him. Morpheus’ eyes were barely open, blue slits in the white of his face, but he occasionally caught sight of the others – of the renewed fervor with which the mortals attacked the beast – And something like relief trickled through him, as he felt her begin to flag. Her thrashing lost its strength, began to take on a weariness he recognized as dying fatigue. But he held on until the end. Held until he felt her final sigh, hot and wet and sticky against his belly fur – her blackened blood burned as it mixed with his own divine droplets, but he continued to hold on as her great head finally fell forward – and then he was struggling to escape the heavy weight of her deceased skull, squirming free from underneath her bulk. If there was any gratitude he could heap upon the beast, it was that she had not fallen upon his horns and that they had not snapped in the preceding fight. As he pulled free of the bloodied carcass, the aches of his body made themselves known. Being a creature of divinity, what harmed the others could not truly kill him – no, that right was reserved for other divine creatures – but that did not mean he did not suffer for carelessness. And he suffered now – a crushed lung; bruised, cracked, broken ribs; paws that shook to stand on; something that might have been blood clogging up the back of his throat. “Well done,” he croaked out, and something like amusement threaded through the pain. He looked toward his charges, examining both more carefully now that the beast was slain. He hobbled toward Pepper, because she was the one who had accepted his help, checking over her injuries with something like regret dampening the light of his eyes. “I’m sorry,” he said softly, meant only for her ears. “But you did very well – were very brave.”And he turned to look at the black female that had discarded his help, something like a wry smile tugging his lips up. “It seems you did not need my help after all,” he said lightly. But now there was only the boar and these injured wolves and – the other Guide. Morpheus turned to face the black brute, unscathed despite the raging battle that had just concluded. “Thank you,” he said, politely, uncertain of how to act around this god. The divine creature was the first of its kind that Morpheus had met since he had awoken without memory. He wanted to ask things, wanted to know if the black male knew him – but they were not alone, were in the company of mortals, and he was weakened. His ears flicked askance, flip-flopping between up and down as he mulled over his options. At last, with a small hint of regret, he bowed his head and said, “I should go.”Not just because he was injured, needed to feast upon the dreams of the creatures that slumbered within the Black Forest. But because he was suddenly surrounded by so many of his kind, or almost his kind, and his lack of memories struck him as a very dangerous problem. One that he would not allow the other to exploit. Not until he was more confident in the present he had managed to scrape together. Pepper Each of her comrades fought-on with a vigor that made Pepper feel both a great pride and guilt. It was a smart decision to stay back, even in the sow's last moments, but it still felt wrong. She had done so much better against the bull; she had remained fearless. Now, though, briars filled with a terrorizing venom twisted throughout her chest. It was impossible to take her eyes off the gilt as the spiritual creature slowly slipped into death - it was like the roaring beast called to her. But not audibly. There was something inside. A common thread that joined two very different souls - fear. As soon as the female recognized this intangible link it was inescapable. The emotion strangled the breathe from her sore lungs and punched a different sort of pain within her breast. Every nerve lit-up whilst every muscle tensed... then it was gone. Pepper was left with her own feelings as well as the aftermath of whatever just happened. It caused a shiver up the emaciated canine's spine, but otherwise she was alright; more or less.
Dried blood caked her chest making the nasty gash sustained look even worse. Meanwhile the same maroon still dribbled out her nostrils and some even spilled from the side of charcoal lips. Each breath drew a stabbing pain, likely from some internal damage, thankfully nothing life-threatening. She would make it, though this encounter would haunt her sleep for many nights to come.
Absorbed within her mental struggles, Pepper only noticed her Guide once his voice broke the silence. It was odd hearing such emotion fill that typically placid voice, but appreciated. A smile was managed to his gracious compliment - even if she didn't believe it herself. "Thank you for coming, Morpheus. You've been nothing but helpful." The words were as jittery as the wolf that spoke them, but still meaningful. Though it seemed the onyx wolf that shared her Guide didn't feel the same, to Pepper, the alabaster deity gave reassurance. He was already like distant family; a long-lost uncle explaining how the world worked. Again, as typical with their meetings, she dipped her cranium low for a few seconds out of genuine respect. Then he was gone. But that wasn't the last of the wolves that approached her.
Quartz had proven to be trustworthy and earned the older female labeling her as a friend. Thus her approach was met with another effort toward a smile. Watching the adept huntress in the brutal battle had been a reward - they had all done amazingly - but there was barely a scratch on her companion. The fact beckoned words of compliment, yet they couldn't leave her throat in time. Quartz had silently come to her merely to tend to the horrid wounds that she bore. It was humbling to say the least. Unable to surface a sound, Pepper expressed her gratitude by simply pressing her narrow muzzle against the dark-coated wolf's shoulder for a few beats. Perhaps a more prideful specimen would of rejected such sympathy, but the salt-pepper skeleton wasn't the type. It was nice to have another to lean on.
When the feasting began, Pepper would hang back. Others might believe she contributed, but it didn't feel right to join-in just yet. Only when the rest had eaten near their fill would the scrawny being approach and take a small share.

With last breath Zora released her grip. Inhaling, caused the bruised and cracked ribs to radiate the pain that her sensors mostly blocked during the heat of the fight. Her teeth ripped into the flesh of the sow pulling a long strand which she promptly carried to Pepper. Trust was something earned, and friendship slowly grown with Zora. The females of this group were skilled and determined in their hunt, she hoped that seeds were sown, but caution would be given of full approval until time had passed. All in attendance would be able to fill themselves today. Attention turned to the others gathered around. She glanced to Oberon with a slightly wearied by grateful smile. The appreciation for both gods appearing when needed, was a feeling Zora was sure she was not alone in. Glancing around the group in turn she spotted Callisto, Quartz, who was attending Pepper. The double horned god was also close beside her.
Her teeth ripped into the flesh of the sow pulling a long strand of meat, hanging from her jaws she walked slowly towards Pepper. A bow of her head was given to Quartz upon approach, if she hadn’t retreated yet. Morpheus seemed injured, which drew Zora to wonder how gods heal, . She set the meat down in front of Pepper though stepping back she dipped her head slightly. “My name is Zora Talus, and I know full well I would’ve died today if not for everyone’s skills.” The features on her face were serious with a hint of lightness though subdued. Alone had been most of her life, the feeling of another jumping in to take down the ‘enemy’ was always a rocket to her emotions. Happiness, worry, and any others one could think of. The pain in her right paw was setting in after limping towards the pair. “I am grateful to have met you both, there will be plenty for all, eat and grow stronger…”
The word friend had nearly formed on the tip of her tongue, when she suddenly stopped, mouth closing. She wasn’t sure how ready she was for making companions in this new world, but her guess was that both females genuinely were friends one should want to have. Even they way they cared for each other, it made Zora feel out of place. The small jealous thought the rattled to life was squashed as she thought of the nature of both females. ”I hope to call you friends, I assume we are all on separate paths, but support and knowledge shared I think would prove helpful.” The mental filter that normally strained her thoughts into careful words had seemed to vanish. Zora was astonished at her own honesty, something as simple as wanting friendship was foreign to admit out loud.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","callisto"] The despair was thick in the sow’s blackened blood, deep in its death rattle. It had struggled and failed, sought a fight then lost it. Here, and then gone. And Callisto knew then that she never wanted to die. She’d always known, but it was solid now. Firm. An unknown emotion congealed within her chest, coiling itself around the knots of physical pain until she wasn’t sure what she was feeling anymore. it doesn’t matter. Right. The fell spirit’s limb was nothing more than dead weight in her bloody maw, so she let it drop to the ground with an audible thump. The rogue withdrew from the carcass, something deep and emotional rumbling in her throat as she licked her lips and tasted the spirit’s blood. There were words directed to her, painted in a familiar voice. She turned her head in the white wolf’s direction, pink eyes narrowing as he addressed her shortly. “So glad you’ve figured that out,” she replied, voice low and virulent. Her first encounter with him, she had been maddened, confused. Now she was stable and slightly more knowledgeable of her situation. It didn’t make her any more civil a wolf though. She watched his ethereal form disappear into the gloom, gaze trained on his form until it wasn’t. Her company was given a passing glance then, large head turning so that she could scope each of them out. Comfort and contribution were being offered to the emaciated wolf that had managed to blind the sow. She considered joining them but quickly cast the thought aside. The way she saw it, introducing herself and building a relationship with wolves she’d likely never see again would be a waste of everyone’s time. But more importantly, hers. And-- oh, there was another. She had somehow failed to take notice of the black male before. She sized him up for a moment before turning her attention where it mattered. The sow. ( here, and then gone) Just like the patriarch’s son. A deep breath was taken with lungs that weren’t punctured and a wicked grin grew on her muzzle. She wasted no time peeling off the fur and exposing the spare muscle. Feeding hadn’t been her reason for partaking in the hunt, but it seemed ample compensation for her wounds. Besides, something deeper within her was calling for her to consume, even if she couldn’t eat much. She had her sparse fill then made her exit. Strangely, she left feeling emptier than before. tags: Lirrielwords: 414 notes: n/a [newclass=.callisto]height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.callisto b]color:#d9cbdb;text-shadow:0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.callisto i]color:#fff; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.callisto::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.callisto::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.callisto::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]
