Vox Deus is a semi-fantasy roleplay. However, mortal wolves begin with mostly normal appearances. Only gods and those born of gods have strange appearances. Otherwordly appearances come about either through mutations or through the physical manifestation of powers. Normal appearances, mutations, and power manifestations are covered in more detail below.
[attr="class","boopsie"]mortal wolves
Mortal wolves refer to wolves that are drawn to this region. They are not from here, were not born here, and were not made here. Nor have they fully-awakened to their powers. Mortal wolves' eyes are any hue of any color and heterochromia is common among a small minority.
Wolf coat colors can be seen below. Overly vibrant colors such as purple and green must be mutated on or be physically manifested. Coat markings are equally mundane without godly influence, though small deviations are allowed on a case-by-case basis.
Finally, mortal wolves range in size from 75 to 100 centimeters tall, measured at the shoulder (a bit smaller than two feet up to a bit over three feet in imperial). Wolves may grow larger or smaller with the use of the Beauty/Beast mutation.
[attr="class","boopsie"]mutations
Mutations come about naturally, a side-effect of being born where the veil between mortals and gods is paper-thin. Mutations can occur naturally or can be purchased.
Mutations are available for purchase in the site shop with the use of Evo Points. Otherwise, there is a 10% chance of having a mutation appear in a litter. For naturally-occurring mutations, each individual pup has their own mutation chance rolled. A purchased mutation can only be applied to a single wolf. Listed below are the types of mutations available.Additional Eyes: Wolves born with this mutation may have multiple sets of eyes. These eyes are always located on the face and will face the same direction as existing eyes.
Altered Blood: Alters the very blood the wolf bleeds. This may change the viscosity, the color, or even the chemical makeup of the blood.
Altered Eyes: Alters the state of the eye, changing the shape of the pupil or eliminating it entirely. Rarely interacts with the wolf's own power to further alter the state, such as a wolf of fire producing tears of a viscous, lava-like substance.
Altered Fur: Alters the state of the fur itself (not the color!); may be longer, thinner, absent altogether, etc. Rarely, this mutation mixes with one of the parents' powers, creating fur that may look like living flame, strands of grass, or shards of ice.
Altered Paws: Alters the structure of the feet, allowing them to come out as another animal's appendages. Examples include cloven hooves, bird talons, and cat paws. Always affects two or four paws.
Altered Tail: Alters the wolf's tail to instead resemble another species' tail. Tails may range from short and docked like a bear's to long and silky like a horse's.
Altered Teeth: Alters the wolf's teeth in some way. Results range from subtle to intricate. May result in multiple rows of teeth.
Altered Tongue: Alters the wolf's tongue to more closely resemble a different animal's tongue. Most commonly mutations result in a snake-like tongue, but other variations have been recorded.
Beauty/Beast: Causes the wolf to grow smaller or larger than normally possible. Wolves of the Beast mutation are capable of growing up to 125 cm at the shoulder (4'1" imperial) and may possess a shaggier coat, the beginnings of a mane-like ruff, and thicker, more powerful limbs. In contrast, wolves of the Beauty mutation may be as small as 50 cm at the shoulder (1'7" imperial) and tend toward a sleeker look with long, slender legs and a short, shiny coat.
Fins: The wolf is born with fin-like appendages upon its body. Larger fins may provide propulsion in water whereas smaller ones act as cosmetic.
Ghost: Causes the body to phase through solid objects at will, turning the wolf semi-transparent and giving it a faint, unearthly glow.
Glow: Causes certain body parts of a wolf to emit light. This glow may range in intensity from faint and subtle to bright and obvious.
Horns: Sprouts from the wolf's skull. They are made of keratin and cannot be shed but can break and bleed. If broken, they will regrow over time.
Plumage: Feathers sprout between the fur or replace it entirely. May cover the body entirely or emerge only in small patches. The feathers are typically colored similar to the wolf's coat color but may display banding and other uncommon markings.
Scales: The wolf's skin is scaled. Scales may exist in conjunction with fur or replace it entirely. Scales can occur in small patches or cover the entire body. Scales are often iridescent and reflect light.
Spines: The wolf has eruptions of either bone or keratin emerging from their skin. Spines may emerge from any location on the wolf and can be any thickness and height. Spines regrow slowly over time if broken.
Strange Color: The wolf's fur is of an unnatural shade not naturally occurring in nature. Countershading is allowed to be included in this. An example of countershading would be a wolf whose top half is a pale green while its legs and belly are colored a darker green.
Strange Marking: The wolf possesses markings not commonly found in its species. Examples range from dapples to stripes. A number of small markings may be grouped together as one so long as they are all of the same color.
Wings: The wolf possesses wings of some kind. These wings grow with the wolf and allow flight upon adulthood. These wings are natural structures and can be damaged, so wolves possessing them should take care.
[attr="class","boopsie"]manifestations of power
Certain keywords will physically change a wolf. Upon purchasing a keyword, members will be told how it will change their wolf's appearance. Members may choose to use this to augment their wolf's appearance or ignore it.
Upon reaching the full strength of their powers, a wolf will be given the ability to physically manifest qualities of their power. Wolves with domain over plant life may take on more earthen hues, including vibrant greens. A wolf with command over air may possess the qualities of a bird. A wolf who controls fire may have flames spew from their lips. These physical manifestations are typically cosmetic in nature but may confer some small benefits on occasion.
