An experienced nomad, he spent his days either hunting or traveling, and it left him little time for rest. Even as the sun disappeared below the horizon, he had continued on by the light of the moon, pressing forward stubbornly. It was only when the pads of his paws began to ache, unaccustomed to the jagged edges of the coast, and his stomach began to growl rebelliously that he acquiesced to their demands. Finding a relatively hidden area and inspecting it to make sure it wasn’t frequented by any other animals, Caspian curled up tightly, licking at his sore paws to soothe the pain, and slowly drifted off to sleep. It wasn’t much later that he felt something compelling him to wake up. The stimulus didn’t necessarily scream danger, and so Caspian was tempted to ignore it. But, it was pressing, and a tiny voice deep within warned him that if he were to pass up this opportunity, he would regret it for the rest of his life. And so he forced his heavy eyelids open, deep blue eyes blinking blearily as he stretched and expelled the tightness that had set in overnight from his joints. So engrossed in his activities, it wasn’t until he had finished with his waking ritual that he noticed something very, very off. He had been lulled to sleep by the sound of waves crashing against the shore, yet the beach was no longer the same one he remembered. Unlike the tumultuous dark ocean he was accustomed to, the water here glowed a bright sapphire blue, and the color reflected in his eyes as he staggered to his feet and wandered closer for a better look. Dipping his head, he sniffed at the salty surf, jerking back with a grimace as a sudden surge of water wetted his muzzle. Tentatively, he licked the liquid from his lips, and his face twisted in displeasure as he found the taste to be just as unpleasant as it normally was. Then this was a regular ocean, save for the inexplicable shine, but that answered none of Caspian’s questions. How had he appeared here, in a foreign land with mysteries he couldn’t even being to comprehend? Where was this, and how was he to return home afterwards? Apprehensively, he scanned his surroundings, searching for any other clues to explain his sudden appearance. [googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] There were many beautiful things in Morpheus’ life – how could there not be, when he traveled across the realm of the gods as easily as a mortal might stroll through a forest? But for all the beauty of the divine, there was also something almost boring in its perfection. Floating mountains were so grand only the first thousand times you spotted them in the distance. Bubbling lava providing nutrients to the plant life that grew around it was a spectacle - but only it was the strangest sight your eyes had ever beholden. So, if you were to ask Morpheus, what the most beautiful sight he’d ever seen was – he’d answer the Broken Coast at nightfall, its glittering surge lending credence to its sea’s name: Eldmere. Which, he knew, in that divine way of his, drew its roots from something like fire-sea – though his poor linguistic skills did little justice to the true majesty of what it had been christened when even gods were young. But that mattered little. What did matter was that he trotted swiftly across the coastline, the water occasionally lapping at his paws, frisking about like a tiny pup. It was always eager at night, and the light it threw, alongside the watery beams of the moon, lent his otherworldly appearance an even greater displacement. And, occasionally, he gamboled, lifting his paws high above the water, not quite hopping, not quite skipping – he was too elegant for such crass words – no, it was more of a dance, the way he carried on across the water-kissed beach. Ephemeral and elegant and beautiful in that careless way all gods possessed. He was perfect – not a hair out of place, not a mark upon his skin – but that was the way of gods, perfect on the outside to hide their imperfections within. And he slowed to a steady pace as he caught sight of his target: a white creature that held its own sense of mysticism, spun of moonbeams and snow-laden clouds. He went toward his charge, stood amongst the surf, his expression hidden in the dark of night. Morpheus hoped he was taking in the beauty he had been blessed with – so many of his mortals had not seen the sea at night, knew not the wonders it possessed. He would like to take them here, he thought, when they were a bit better settled. But for now – he dipped his head as he approached, allowing the other a clear look at his horns – but also that he was a respectful sort, for all that he seemed at odds with what the mortal had seen before. “Hello,” he said softly, voice just barely breaking over the quiet whispers of the ocean. “I am Morpheus, God of Dreams, and I am here to guide you.”It was important, he’d learned, to at least impart on the mortals his name. With his name, they would be able to call for him, could summon him – and so he knew they were safer than they would have been, had they just left before he could speak a word. Now, no matter how this newcomer reacted, he was satisfied. But he was willing to impart yet further information, if only he would listen. [googlefont="Lato:400i,400,900;"] [attr="class","juliecontainer"] [attr="class","juliebar"] [attr="class","julieimage"] [attr="class","julietags"] [ Lirriel] [attr="class","juliewords"] [ 459 ] [attr="class","julietext"]Caspian had not realized how focused he was in his examination of the strange, glowing ocean until a voice rang out and he whirled around to find that another wolf had snuck up on him. Immediately, his senses jumped into overdrive, hackles raising instinctively as his lips pulled back in a snarl. While Caspian possessed little morale to propel himself into a scuffle, his years as a loner, unwelcome anywhere, had taught him that offense was the best defense. Whereas packs would happily harass weaker wolves until they were forced to leave their territory, they often approach stronger wolves more conservatively, unwilling to sacrifice the health of their members for a short bout of fun. Usually, if Caspian acted much more aggressively than he really was, he would be able to wriggle his way out of tense scenarios with only minimal scratches.
But, just as soon as he flashed his fangs at the newcomer, Caspian realized that there was no point in posturing and acting. The stranger may speak his language, may appear to mirror him in size and stature, but there was something wholly unnatural about the creature that stood across from him. While the bizarre horns sprouting from the wolf’s forehead certainly caught his attention first, they didn’t keep it for long. All too quickly, his eyes darted to the stranger’s impeccable pelt – so unlike his own, unkempt one – and even dared to meet his eyes, though they did not linger there for long, too frightened by what he might find beneath their surface should he probe a little too far. This wolf, this Morpheus, had come, proclaiming himself a god, and Caspian did not doubt him. While he had never once thought he may meet a real deity, one not crafted by his mother’s silver tongue but rather true flesh and blood, he could not deny that the wolf before him was more than a mere mortal. The two of them were not equals, in any way, shape, or form, and fickle gods were known to crush entire civilizations under their heel.
Caspian shivered as a chill raced down his spine.
“Did you bring me here?” He asked, doing his hardest to steel his voice even as it threatened to crack. “I’m sorry, I don’t know what I’ve done to offend you or any of the gods, but I want to go home. Peacefully.”
For a moment, Caspian warred with himself. A plea was on his tongue, waiting for him to grant it to opportunity to race past his lips, but his pride forced him to swallow it down instead. He would not beg, even if it was Morpheus’s intent to hurt him, for his dignity meant more to him than any flesh wound ever could.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] The flash of teeth was not unusual, and Morpheus’ own muzzle remained smooth. While he’d been lucky to not encounter many aggressive mortals, he’d still stumbled across a few. And he knew to back down, to cower, was only to invite further agitation. But he swiftly realized that this one was not ill of temper – no, he was reflexively defensive, and as he took in the white god’s form, his ire withdrew as quickly as it had appeared. If anything, he appeared shocked – not that Morpheus could blame him. He’d long ago known his horns were a manifestation of his godhood, knew that his centuries of existence compared to their few years lent him a finely-aged grace that could not be so easily duplicated. But still, the warmth he had been hoping to cultivate fell flat with the mortal’s small tremor – a barely-there crawl of unease up the length of his spine. And all Morpheus could do was offer a wan smile, already begun to realize that the happy introduction he’d played out in his mind was in its death throes, replaced by a more uncomfortable creature. “I did not,” he answered the wolf. He kept his voice carefully level, not daring to step closer or otherwise move toward the other. He did not want to further force himself upon the mortal, could not begin to think of how he might mend the crack that threatened to split the other’s voice. “And I cannot.”He drew his eyes away from the other, certain that the mortal might regain his earlier bravado without a god’s eyes upon him. Instead, he looked out across the blue-lit sea, searching the far-off depths for any sign of the behemoths he knew lurked beneath the surface. “Don’t be afraid of me,” he counseled softly. “I am here to guide you on your journey to godhood – we are the same, you and I.”He wasn’t quite sure how to speak to the other, so he approached with the plain facts. This is what you are, this is what I am, this is what we are. They were allies, of a sort, though it was an alliance the other was obviously unhappy to be a part of. And yet he had no choice in the matter – the fact that he stood upon this shore, staring out upon this sea proved as much. [googlefont="Lato:400i,400,900;"] [attr="class","juliecontainer"] [attr="class","juliebar"] [attr="class","julieimage"] [attr="class","julietags"] [ Lirriel ] [attr="class","juliewords"] [ 472 ] [attr="class","julietext"]Even though Morpheus was quick to reassure Caspian that he was not responsible for any of the events that had transpired, Caspian still hesitated to trust him. In the stories, gods were often tricky creatures; they acted no better than the venomous snakes that roamed his homeland, spitting poison and striking pups in their sleep. Yes, they were immortal. Yes, they were strong. But, as his mother had explained in her stories, knowledge and power gained over many millennia had a tendency to drive even the kindest creatures down darker routes, and Caspian had no proof that Morpheus had not already fallen prey to the more sinister workings of godhood. So, he did not place all his faith in Morpheus’s words. It was better to be cautious now than regretful later.
The God’s intentions had been well-meaning when he lifted his gaze from Caspian and shifted to stare out into the open ocean, and this decision prompted the change he hoped for. No longer under Morpheus’s scrutiny, Caspian was able to relax, if even just a little, though he could not fully put an end to the discomfort he held towards the other wolf. He hadn’t been raised to be blindly trusting, to wear his heart upon his sleeve and hand it out to whomever crossed his path. For the longest time, it had just been him and his mother, and that was where the borders of his world drew to a close. And, upon her death, it shrunk a little more. In his mind, there was no room for this unsolicited new realm to which he had been transported to against his will. There was no space for gods of dreams to come and treat him as an equal. Caspian had never even thought to prepare for such possibilities, yet fate had chosen to force them upon him regardless, and it brought a nervous growl to the back of his throat.
“The same, you say? Surely, you must be mistaken. I am no god, nor do I possess the intent in becoming one. I…” As he spoke, Caspian’s eyes followed the path of Morpheus’s heavy stare into the sea. Despite the God’s focus on the frothy waves, Caspian could see nothing of interest along the surface, but he took a few steps away from the water regardless. Morpheus was scanning the ocean as if he could see straight through the shallows into the shadowy depths below, and Caspian did not want to meet whatever creatures had managed to capture the focus of a God. “I just want to go home. If you cannot grant that wish, then please, tell me who can and how to find them. I promise that as soon as I have that information, I will be out of your fur and we can go our separate ways.”

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] His action had its intended effect. The mortal relaxed, if only marginally, and Morpheus’ eyes lidded, half-pleasure, half-protection, as a breeze blown in off the sea swept across his face. He scented brine, sea-slick, iron-rich blood – and knew that out there one of the creatures to be feared had made a kill. Good for it, he thought placidly. He wondered if it had been one of their sea-kin, those creatures that hunted in packs as mortal wolves did, with fearsome teeth and close-knit bonds. He further wondered who had taught him of them, for he knew with a certainty that he had never played in the depths of the sea, even when his memories had been intact. One ear he kept cocked toward Caspian, assurance that he was listening, but also unwilling to draw his eyes away from the shining spectacle that was the Eldmere. He wondered what would happen if he were to splash out into the surf – walk and walk until he reached that sudden drop – would the creatures that lurked beneath snatch him up, catch him between their draws, desperate to drain him of divinity? Or would they recognize him for what he was – for who he had been (who had he been?) – and swim lazy circles about him, observing him even as he observed them? Compared to this mortal’s tiresome statements, Morpheus found the sea monsters’ imagined teeth far more interesting. But at last he tore his eyes from the sea, letting them at last return to the white wolf he stood beside. “Very well,” he said. “If you are seeking the one who shall allow you to return home, you shall find him upon the Broken Coast, in the company of Morpheus, the God of Dreams.”He paused, allowing the realization to sink in, then added, “If you wish to escape your duties as a god, you must first possess the power to do so. A mortal cannot escape a realm built for gods – but surely a god can? I am only here to guide you toward the full realization of your divinity. What you do with it afterwards is for you to decide. We gods do not rule one another.”[attr="class", "godling"] tags: Caspian Vaelawords: 366 notes: stop whining caspain lmao [newclass=.morpheus]max-height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

The weary look in Morpheus’s eyes warned him to control himself, and while Caspian might have stood up to another normal wolf, he knew better than to challenge a god, not when they possessed immortality and supernatural powers and other strengths completely foreign to him. He called himself the God of Dreams, so, surely, he had the ability to ruin them. And, while Morpheus’s answer was not the most pleasant, it didn’t sound like a complete lie. While Caspian failed to understand why the world had chosen him for the path of godhood – he, who was no more deserving of it than any other wolf out there, who possessed no special abilities or knowledge or nobility – he would play along if it meant that he could return home in the end. “Fine,” he acquiesced, bowing his head towards Morpheus, if only to avoid the god’s stare once more. Instead, he focused on the sand beneath his paws, watching the fine grains tumble past him as they were carried away by the gentle ocean breeze. Come, it whispered to him enticingly, and Caspian wished he could, if only it would take him from this land of gods and send him where he truly belonged. For he was no creature of myth and legend; wolves like him belonged in the shadows, darting from hiding spot to hiding spot until the end. “If that’s the only way, then I guess I have no choice. You say you’re here to guide me, so what must I do to become a god? Is there a special place I have to go to? Or a creature I have to hunt? And will I also be a God of Dreams? Or of something else?”[notes: sorry this is so short!!] [newclass=.juliecontainer]width:350px; height:440px; overflow:hidden; background:#fff; border-bottom:20px #c4c5c1 solid; margin:20px; color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.juliebar]background:#c4c5c1;height:60px;position:relative;top:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.julieimage]position:relative;top:-55px;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext]position:relative;width:295px; height:250px;top:-145px;text-align:justify;padding:5px 15px 5px 15px;font-size:11px;font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext b]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;font-size:12px;color:#c4c5c1;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #000;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext i]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;font-size:11px;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #c4c5c1;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;background:#fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#c4c5c1;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietags]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #000;font-weight:bold;color:#c4c5c1;text-transform:lowercase;font-size:11px;width:115px;height:30px;position:relative;top:-130px;left:-115px;text-align:center;overflow:hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=.juliewords]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #000;font-weight:bold;color:#c4c5c1;text-transform:lowercase;font-size:11px;width:115px;height:30px;position:relative;top:-175px;left:115px;text-align:center;overflow:hidden;[/newclass]

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] Though the mortal at last relented, his acceptance was a half-built thing, drawn out by necessity rather than want. He would continue to prove troublesome, Morpheus supposed, but compared against some of his previous disciples, this one knew something of destiny and how to attempt and circumvent its flow was to invite destruction and despair. Really, he thought sourly, I’ve been amongst these creatures of doom and gloom for too long.He longed for the likes of Pepper, Leyda – wolves that were willing to work with him, work toward this fate that approached them on fluttering wings. Ready to welcome it, to tame it – and to ultimately be all all the happier that they had adapted so readily. This one, he thought, had a future lined with teeth if he could learn to bow. But he kept his thoughts to himself. He was a Guide, after all. Not mentor, not friend, not kin – though he would gladly accept any of those roles, to better help the mortals who were tied to him through some joining of the souls: a faint, glimmering thread that kept them connected but never bound. He drew a smile onto his face, turning his head to acknowledge the other once more. He did not seek the mortal’s eyes, but he knew something of respect, and he offered it freely. “I do not,” he said with a hint of amusement, “think you shall be a Dreamer.”No, the wolf was too grounded, too unwilling to fly. Different souls called to different domains. Each power suited its owner – and this creature was too unlike Morpheus. “Eventually you will be allowed to pass into the deeper realm. But first you will have to search inside yourself – what is it that holds domain over you? What is it that so closely aligns itself to your soul? I am a Guide, yes, but these are answers you must find for yourself.”And, because he knew the wolf might not be so easily pacified with such abstract advice, he added, “I would counsel you to wander further inland. There are others like you, and they will have begun to gain control over their own powers. They might offer advice a being as ancient as myself cannot.”[attr="class", "godling"] tags: Caspian Vaelawords: 374 notes: no judgement here lmao. do you want me to toss cas a mission while we're finishing up? The God encouraged him to search for the root of his powers by looking within himself, but that was an exercise Caspian had deemed fruitless many, many years ago. Introspection only ever rewarded those who already held all the answers. For Caspian who had none, it served to do nothing but reopen old wounds and remind him of times he’d rather forget. More than anything, he wanted to go home, to fulfill the promises he owed, but all the same he balked from the challenge he had been presented. His soul was like a bottomless pit, and he feared that if he threw himself down, he would never be able to claw his way back up. It was times like these that Caspian envied the wolves he would have normally scoffed at, the ones chock full of foolish bravado and endless confidence. He had been taught rationality and survival over all else, courage included, but now the training that had kept him alive all this time had morphed from a crutch into a hinderance. For once, he longed for the fearlessness exhibited by his more careless peers, if only so he would have the strength to grasp at the knowledge he so desperately needed. Really, this was only the first hurdle in his way, and he already hesitated to jump it, fully aware that the moment his feet left the ground, there was no turning back. The fact that there were others roaming this strange land was not unexpected, but Caspian didn’t welcome it either. He had spent most of his life alone, unable to rely or trust on anyone else, and the thought of having to interact with and take advice from a complete stranger made his skin prickle. They may be in the same boat as him, but he had no clue to their real intentions. No doubt, some wanted to become gods for more devious reasons, and Caspian wanted no part in those schemes. Trust no one, his past urged him, for betrayal comes to them as easily as breathing, and you did not come this far just to die because of stupid mistake. No, Caspian could get on just fine on his own; working with others would only impede him. But, Morpheus did not need to know that. Caspian glanced at him swiftly, daring to make eye contact for but a second before leaping away despite the God’s smile. “Is there a specific place I should go to discover my power? And, once I do, what happens then? I assume godhood is not as simple as that, if there are others who are still working on controlling their magic.” [notes: yes please! force my boi to socialize lmao] [newclass=.juliecontainer]width:350px; height:440px; overflow:hidden; background:#fff; border-bottom:20px #c4c5c1 solid; margin:20px; color:#222;[/newclass] [newclass=.juliebar]background:#c4c5c1;height:60px;position:relative;top:0px;[/newclass] [newclass=.julieimage]position:relative;top:-55px;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext]position:relative;width:295px; height:250px;top:-145px;text-align:justify;padding:5px 15px 5px 15px;font-size:11px;font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext b]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;font-size:12px;color:#c4c5c1;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #000;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext i]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;font-size:11px;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #c4c5c1;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext::-webkit-scrollbar]width:3px;background:#fff;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietext::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background:#c4c5c1;[/newclass] [newclass=.julietags]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #000;font-weight:bold;color:#c4c5c1;text-transform:lowercase;font-size:11px;width:115px;height:30px;position:relative;top:-130px;left:-115px;text-align:center;overflow:hidden;[/newclass] [newclass=.juliewords]font-family:'Lato', sans-serif;text-shadow:1px 1px 2px #000;font-weight:bold;color:#c4c5c1;text-transform:lowercase;font-size:11px;width:115px;height:30px;position:relative;top:-175px;left:115px;text-align:center;overflow:hidden;[/newclass]

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] Flighty as a rabbit, Morpheus thought, and something like a sigh built within his skull, a light pressure without escape – the beginnings of a headache, he thought with tired amusement. He blinked slowly, drawn weary by the other’s incessant need to undermine him, to not simply accept – but he held his tongue, did not truly feel angry or irritated. Just – tired. He thought of where they were, how he might appear – but concerns of his appearance were swiftly squashed, barely allowed to form, before he stretched his paws before him and laid his great head upon them, blue eyes catching one last glimpse of the other’s face before he allowed them to slide shut. Let the other think it godly eccentricity. He had not the need to wander across the lands, bringing answers and counsel and soothing words to anguished mortals, who were only able to focus upon only themselves. He felt for them, of course. But even a saint grew faint beneath the weight of such sorrow – and rage, despair, desolation, distrust – never a thought saved for the ghostly Guide who offered himself at all hours of the day to his beloved mortals. He wondered if his past self had ever felt this way. Eyes still closed, voice slightly muffled with his muzzle pressed upon his paws, Morpheus answered, “You will find other mortals no matter where you travel. Seek the Cradle, though – you will know it by the fields upon fields of snowdrops. I am sure you will find someone willing to help there.”Not that he was eager to throw this wolf in Pepper’s path – but he hoped she might be able to provide counsel, advice – and perhaps the words from a mortal’s mouth would offer greater comfort. Of course, the other hadn’t exactly asked to be thrown into another’s path – but Morpheus suspected the wolf had so little grasp of himself that he needed others. To ignite a spark, to remind him of a hidden facet he had long-ago buried. Anything, really, to help him first feel his power. “Once you know what you hold dominion over, it will come naturally. It is a personal journey for everyone.” And, though he did not wish to be so blunt, Morpheus said, “Now go. The sooner you leave, the sooner you shall be satisfied.”It felt strange, to speak so curtly. But he was forced to face the fact that he could not give this wolf the answers he wanted – and the low ache that sat beneath his horns was only continuing to grow, spreading across the expanse of his skull. He would nap, he thought. Sleep off this pain that built within his head – and then he would continue, onto the next charge. As was his role.
