Oh how he hated hearing his name uttered by such a decrepit and loathsome creature. The way it hissed his name like a whisper; a lover tasting the sweet honey of his affections. It may not have been exactly as the serpent spoke but the male saw no difference. It didn't help that this "god" used terms associated with endearment along with his name. It took great self-control to not lung the distance and tear the behemoth's head from its coils. Even greater to simply stand there not show any more aggression than a curled lip of disgust. That all fell away at the revelation of the brute true self. "Pah!" The snorted jeer was filled with all the hatred and self-contempt one life could possibly harbor. "So..I truly am cursed. To live eternity wishing it not." The snake had made mention of not being to outrun fate, several times perhaps. Would he even try? He was trapped in this place. Didn't even know what this place was. He'd only spent minutes in the dark pondering its existence before this Calliope manifested as a gross mass of a serpent. In that brief moment between mocking tone and grave words, the brute had let his eyes downcast. Now they jerked back up to the onyx beast, if it was still there, and asked much to his surprise, "What must I do?"

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","icarus"] “Cursed? Is all the melodrama really necessary?” The snake hissed. His voice was soft, like a mother’s caress, but carried a very obvious bite of mockery. Mortals loved to whine and complain and drag on and on about completely asinine issues, and the longer they cried, the more disinterested Calliope grew. They had absolutely no idea how meaningless their prattle was; even before she earned her immortality, Calliope already had little patience for the theatrics of her more anxious peers. But, now that a mortal’s lifetime was but a blink of the eye to her, their worries became all the more trifling. When you could sleep for a millennia without care for food or water, you could afford to turn a blind eye to any issues that came your way. “So are you yet another with a tragic backstory? An alpha-to-be in exile for a crime he didn’t commit? Or maybe you’re an orphan boy, searching for a place to call home. Trust me, Myrriah, it’s much easier to let go of your past rather than drag it around like a rotting corpse. So many would kill for the chance you have been given. If you truly wish to be a god, then you’ll need to keep your head out of the clouds and start thinking with what little you have between your ears.”For having been suddenly transported into a strange new land, Myrriah had been holding himself together rather spectacularly. He reminded Calliope of Kimagure. They both shared the same kind of desperate intensity, one fueled by fear and hopelessness as opposed to the golden aura of natural born kings. They snapped and snarled to keep others at bay, not because they truly did not long for companionship, but because they were painfully aware of how weak the mortal spirit was. Those weak of mind were prone to pain, both physical and emotional, and building walls was one of the easiest ways to prevent that from happening. The only issue with that, of course, was that those walls had to be impregnable in order to be of any use at all. Myrriah looked up, eyes betraying the slightest hint of uncertainty. Cloaked in the layers of her magic, Calliope grinned, ivory fangs flashing in the purple light. All too often, walls that appeared impenetrable at first glance were nothing more than apparitions. A god of trickery was not easily deceived. “Well, the tasks that await you are numerous, and I doubt you’ll ever come to enjoy them. The road to godhood is not an easy one. And the first step is often times the hardest, especially for wolves carrying extra burdens with them,” the snake turned away from the dark-furred wolf, raising his head to slither his way up the tree he was wrapped around. Moving languidly, he climbed up into the branches, moving through them as silently as a ghost, even though they appeared to tremble upon his passage. “You see, becoming a god is about embracing the future, not throwing a pity party for the ghosts in your past. In order to become a god, you must first learn what domain you will command. Even more importantly, you must survive. This world holds its own set of rules and expectations, and you are too stiff to roll with the punches then you will fail. But do not fret. If you are not cut out to be a god, you will still be of use to this world. Your kind, though lean, is rather easy on the tongue, and I’m sure the rest of the beasts who roam this land will be more than happy to help recycle what is left.”tags: Myrrwords: 614 notes: cal is getting steadily meaner oops [newclass=.icarus]max-height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus b]color:#98b1b0;text-shadow:0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus i]color:#fff; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]

It seemed the snake only knew how to repeat itself and, in doing so, barely answered the canine's question. Survive? Isn't that what he had been doing? The second part of information brought about a scowl of frustration. Riddles, riddles, and more riddles. Couldn't this filthy creature just say yes and no? "Look, snake, I have been surviving for a while now. Do not idly threaten me with woes of death; I've had enough of that to last eternity." Huh..interesting. "The key to this...godhood is finding my power? So be it. I promise you the next time we see each other I'll be a mite stronger. And do please choose a face more...appealing?" The last part was given a half smile laced with smug intellect. Sure he might not be able to outsmart the deity of foul play and tricks but where was the fun if one didn't try? After all, what had he to loose?

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","icarus"] “Well, I hope you live up to your promise. Do not worry, I will not be too disappointed if they do not. In order to do so, one must have had expectations in the first place. No expectations, no disappointment. Simple.” Without so much as a glance back, the snake continued to climb up the tree, noting a dark-feathered magpie perched within the leaves. The bird must have been one of the less gifted of its kind, Calliope suspected, for it was unbothered by the conversation occurring below it. Wing outstretched, it preened its silky flight feathers, blissfully unaware of the danger it was in had Calliope’s snake been real. As it was, however, the god could not cause any real damage to the creature, but she could give it a good fright. And oh how she delighted in keeping others on their toes. “Well, Myrriah, I do suspect you should be on your way. It would be a shame if you turned out to be more bark than bite. Not surprising, but a shame nonetheless. Oh, and before you claim that I have never shown you any kindness, I have heard rumors that the prey in the Faded Fields are plentiful this year. I suggest you take advantage of it.”
Dismissively, the python disappeared into the thick foliage, climbing higher and higher still until it was level with the bird. The reptile’s flat head emerged from the leaves, soulless eyes fixed on its target as its thick muscles coiled up and tensed. Then, it lunged. For a split second, black scales blended into midnight feathers and united the two creatures into one, terrible beast and Calliope watched with eager eyes, committing that sight to memory, an inspiration to draw upon at a later time. Then, both bird and snake disappeared, the former taking to the open skies in a mess of feathers and a terrified squawk, and the latter simply ceasing to exist for it had never truly been there in the first place. With her work done, Calliope got to her feet to leave and cast one last look at Myrriah, drinking in his black pelt, alit with a galaxy of silver stars. For all her ribbing, she really did hope that he would not fail here, would not fall to a wayward gust of wind like a loose petal. There were not many mortals who would dare challenge a god outright, and while it was certainly a mark of arrogance, Calliope was willing to overlook that. More important than his surly ways was the entertainment they brought into her life, a splash of activity in her, otherwise, dreary life as an immortal god. And while she was aware that all good things ended sometime, she hoped that this, at least, she could enjoy for a moment longer. Satisfied, the God of Trickery disappeared into the heart of the woods just as silently as she ad come. tags: Myrr words: 488 notes: Let me know if you want to write a closer for the thread!
