Pepper The dew of the morning had evaporated long ago to leave only rolling fields of fresh snowdrops in its wake save for a single area. In a certain patch of the Cradle, delicate sprouts had been trampled down and scattered haphazardly for the whim of the wind to bare judgement. It was a noticeable mar on an otherwise beautiful scenery - one in which the very culprit that had pulled such a heinous act was still on the scene. A ball of salt-pepper fur was tightly curled in on itself to create an unintelligible mass; a mystery beast with rough protrusions that signified a skeletal structure beneath such an unkempt coat. Who was this tyrant? Pepper. A long-limb she-wolf that was quite literally quivering where she lay, too afraid to move any further. She had been here, in this organic prison, for an entire twenty-four hours now. How did this happen? Not even the female knows herself; it was all very sudden.
The young adult had stayed home with her mother for long enough and had finally decided to leave the nest. Adventure was her calling, and eager the wolf was to answer its howl. Everything had started off fine enough. She grew and learned much as time slowly ebbed on, but it all suddenly went downhill one night. What exactly happened Pepper couldn't say, yet the feelings would always remain: panic, fear, pain, anxiety, horror. All there was to do that next morning was race back to the safety of home as fast as her paws could carry her; she would never make it there, though. Everything went white as if lightning had struck her very being and suddenly the female was nowhere near...anywhere. This place was all new. Untouched. A blanket of welcoming white petals beckoned Pepper to be calm, but all she could feel was overwhelming fear. Where was she? Where was her mother? Anyone?
The unyielding emotion had driven the wolf into a near maddened state, thus was how this section of the Cradle became in such a state. After that small outburst, however, she had simply curled up and waited for the inevitable end. The only movement Pepper had done in the last two days was getting up to merely lick the dew off the surrounding vegetation before laying back down. It was only a matter of time now.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] To the Divine, time was a fluid concept. Morpheus had drifted between dreams and reality, cradled in the loving embrace of the God Realm. He could not say so long he had existed in that half-sense, could only really point to the passing of his past pantheon. At some point, he had been one of many – and now he was alone, wandering an endless land that warped and waved before his very eyes. Because he was a god creature, he did not feel fear. Instead he contemplated his solitude with something approaching mild interest. In his slumber, his memories had slipped from his head like yolk from an egg. He was hollowed and empty – and then he was aware of the others, the ones that were beginning to burn in the mortal lands, so close to the boundary that led into the God Realm. He went, with what might have been curiosity curdling in his belly. It did not take him long to find the first of these intruders – they were almost directly outside the passage that led to the beyond, submerged in the scent of snowdrops. The Cradle, his mind supplied. He thought he might have once liked this place. If nothing else, the displaced mortal was easy to find. Her fear radiated off her, stinking up the air. What was stranger was the smell of fear within her. He had not encountered it before. But there was something almost divine about it – blessed. If one could call the sensation of carrion, of rotten meat, of sweet musky death blessed. But he wasn’t one to question why different domains arose. After all, his dreams had spun into being the horns that perched upon his brow, but he did not think himself a dreamer. At last he spotted her, a stick-like creature that had disturbed the sanctuary of flowers. She was curled tight upon herself, this stranger, and as he came closer, he purposely cleared his throat, a soft rumble that nevertheless penetrated the still air, rending it in two. “You,” he said, as he slowed to a stop a few deer leaps away from her. His head dropped, horns bowing, as he inspected her. It did not occur to him to approach her more carefully, nor did he think to approach kindly. He merely called out to her, and asked, “What are you doing?”[attr="class", "godling"] tags: Pepperwords: 395 notes: xxx [newclass=.morpheus]height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

Pepper Gnarled knots felt like they were being twisted mercilessly within the female's chest; it was a painful sensation that nearly inspired Pepper to purge her innards from the intensity. This was how great the wrath of fear was inside the defeated husk. Why is this happening? She pondered whilst warm, salty tears threaten to spill from olive pools. Surely she didn't deserve whatever punishment destiny had forced upon her - this cruel and inescapable prison within the self. If the wolf was prompt to describe it. she would draw it akin to a vicious storm that raged through her mind and nerves. It struck whenever it pleased, never dissipating. Like now, as the emotion decided to roar and cause the entirety of each muscle beneath her salt-pepper coat to quake. The sudden interaction that unfolded next didn't help the matter.
Usually, Pepper could be noted as keen and observant, but the sheer energy it took to weather the chaos inside made her vulnerable. It was in this fragile state that a horned canine approached; masculine vocals shattered the tormented silence she had previously been in. The disturbance caused the lanky mass to jump as well as falter for a hold on the ruined terrain. It was an ungraceful display of elongated appendages scrambling to distribute weight among four paws. Once established, however, the rapidly breathing adult bore two widened eyes toward the ivory stranger. If his stark white fur wasn't enough of a draw, then the antlers and bright irises he held would certainly do the trick. There was something unworldly about the male - divine. She had never been introduced to the idea of godly beings, so the entire experience was foreign and terrifying. She was certain this powerful creature was here to end her life, thus all there was to do was bow her own narrow cranium in a submissive defeat. Instead of the expected clamp of incisors, however, the newcomer brew an inquiry.
"I...um...," Pepper had to clear her throat before words once more fell under her command. "I'm not doing anything, just... scared. I don't know where I am or how I got here."
One will find that this particular wolf was incapable of telling a lie. Perhaps it was a trait caused from overly successful parenting or perhaps it was recently acquired. In any case, her light tone sung almost like a quiet melody as it left the realms of her lips. She wasn't really sure what she expected next from this encounter. Maybe the snowdrop male would usher her out of here; that was the best-case scenario in the female's mind.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] What a timid creature. That was all he could think, confronted with this skittish wolf – she watched him much as a rabbit might, the whites of her eyes stark in the darkness of her face. She was wan, wasted, as if never-ending anxiety had simply melted the meat from her bones. As she sized him up in turn, Morpheus took a careful step closer, head tilting first one way and then another, his horns gently knifing through the air, the violets and blues almost glowing in the golden light that filtered through the few trees that grew nearby. “Why are you afraid?” he asked at last, voice incredibly soft. It was not consideration toward her, of course. He wasn’t of that type, but nor was he intentionally malicious. If there was anything to account for the gentling of his voice, it was only that his reflections had turned inward as he tried to puzzle out her behavior. At last he came upon the conclusion that it must be the horns. The horns and, as she had suggested, the unfamiliar setting she found herself in. “I am here only to guide you,” he said. “If this land has a name, I would not know it. But the region you find yourself within presently is the Cradle.”And, as an afterthought, he added, “I am a god. As you shall be.”It seemed almost pre-ordained. He did not even to think she might wish a mortal life, might desire an escape, a return to her past. As far as he was concerned, her first step upon the land had erased everything she had ever been and left only a vessel. It was her job now to fill it and take her rightful place among the new pantheon that would undoubtedly arise. Her very arrival had ensured it. And he would guide, and he would watch, and when the new gods had ascended – then what? Could he so easily take a place amongst them? Or would he be forced to submerge himself in the forgotten lands of the gods? He found he didn’t mind either outcome. Neither was a particular good ending for this tale being spun, but he was also himself nearly empty. Maybe, with time, he’d find one path more appealing. But that would come later, after this one. Long after this first encounter between the two. Pepper Why? She had been asking herself the same question for days since the incident occurred. Now, in this foreign land with threats unknown, that bad memory seemed like the least of the worrisome wolf's concerns. Meanwhile, it seemed the male had been kind in his delivery of the question this time, thus he would receive a proper answer. All that was known is when Pepper's innocent view of the world had been cruelly tainted it had mangled her mental state; she attempted to explain it the best she could. "I don't know, honestly. I used to be so... spirited, but now I just can't shake this dreadful feeling." Her sharply sculpted facial features finally looked up once more to mingle their gaze - within those dull olive pools clashed a war of anxiety and unease. She no longer suspected that this horned specter would bare harm, but there were still so many anomalies floating about that beckoned despair. Even before the stranger continued speech, Pepper got the feeling she would never see her home again.
The next three rounds of information relayed to the salt-pepper canine should of been surprising. Granted she hadn't been aware of these facts, they still didn't quite stun her. It was the final statement that forced muscles to tense and lengthy limbs to take retracting paces. Obviously this deity had to be mistaken; they had plucked the wrong fruit from the tree surely. These concerns quickly turned verbal, "You must be mistaken... I'm just... I just want to go back." But even as the desperate voice emitted from her throat she knew that the male had made no error. His unwavering placidity spoke loud and clear on this certainty.
Still, a small sliver of hope maintained against all odds. Maybe he will have mercy on me... Pepper prayed silently, but the echoing thoughts did not reach any god. Destiny had already set into motion what would happen on this day of days and, whether she liked it or not, nothing would stop it.

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] “That is a problem,” Morpheus said to her answer. Strange that his first wolf should be at such odds with him – she, scarred by memories, while he was bereft of them. And yet, as a creature of divinity, he could not so easily ignore a soul in need. Something stirred in his heart, some hungry beast – it had scented the prey it was most anxious toward consuming. And he knew, instinctively, that to satiate this newfound hunger would only assist his power in its continued growth. He took a step closer, brilliant blue eyes focused on her own timid features, when she voiced her protests. They were weak words, and they battered him with as much force as the first snowfall of the year. Morpheus blinked and stretched his neck forward, nose straining toward her form. The stench of fear was unmistakable, though it did not seem to be fear toward him. Good, he thought. “There is no escape.” And then, so she would understand fully, he continued, “Southward lies a sea – it will try to drown you and throw your battered body back onto this land. East, West, North – go far enough and you will be faced with unclimbable mountains.”Again, his voice was flat, as he spoke these immutable facts. But he made an effort to be kind, to be gentle, as he continued, “I cannot offer you escape. But I can teach you something of the power that resides within you. And, for a time, I might take away your fear.”The suggestion was spoken lightly – even if she refused to believe him, refused his help, chose to strike out on her own, she was trapped. But he would not force her to reconcile with the truth just yet. Some sense of what he had once been, of what he had once known, cautioned that to provide force would only grant him an enemy in the long run. He could only offer. It was her choice as to how her future played out. Pepper There it was. Confirmation to crush the resilient hope that had held out against all odds. Pepper would never see her mother again; the land that had been taken for granted in her youth would be nothing more than a memory now. Unspectacular olive eyes broke contact to once more take-in the gravity of this supernatural place - beautiful, but a prison all the same. Dejected. Defeated. Lost. These heavy truths piled onto the frail wolf's heart until the organ seemed to fall within her stomach. Silence festered within her throat whilst thought plagued every inch of her mind. This scene continued, naught but the wind stirring, for an entire minute before finally speech breached free. It was quiet at first, as scrawny as the one that bore it, but then grew to forge a surprisingly confident melody, "I believe you, but I will find a way back home. Not today nor tomorrow, but someday I will make it beyond the mountains and ocean." He himself had spoke on her untapped divinity. Surely, once she was as strong as he, there would be a way back home? There had to be.
The horn-adorning male spoke again, voice seemingly much kinder this time. Pepper appreciated the change once more, but this back-and-forth between flat and gentle was confusing. Perhaps it was within the deity's nature. It made the female wonder what he was feeling, or if he could feel at all. Regardless, the next crashing wave of information sent her into turmoil all over again. Take away my fear? Her shotgun response was an overwhelming 'YES'. Even if it was merely for a day; the vicious emotion had controlled her so completely recently any break would be worth it. But, narrow maw agape in preparation for this quick response, something held her back. It was true that she hated her anxiety and terror more than anything, yet the thought of simply banishing it was... unthinkable. The shadowy feeling had quickly become as much apart of her as any other aspect; if she was just suddenly to be without it, would she become just as emotionless as this being? "I...would love your guidance, sir. But I do not wish for you to take my fear from me. If I am to rid of it, I must do it myself."
Though Pepper knew it was the right thing to do, it still put a damper on her spirits. Still, at least she would have this god to aid her with the many questions that still stirred. Which in of itself brought upon a desperate inquiry, "Are we the only ones in this place?"

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] Someday. What had begun as a tentative promise quickly gained strength as the words fell from her lips. Morpheus dipped his head in acceptance. Privately, he knew, in that unknowable way of his, that held no connection to his lost memories, that when she had fully grasped the extent of her powers, she would be too deeply embroiled in the land. That was the way it was, some distant part of him whispered. The perspective a mortal held was doomed to warp with the blossoming of divinity. It was an extension of the simple truth that power triggered change. He wondered how much different this quivering creature would be when her evolution was complete. Already, he could see some tendrils of confidence, the knowledge of her identity granting her a strength she had previously lacked. And so he was not surprised when she refused his offer. Disappointed, in that detached way of his, because the beast was growling, desperate to help. But he would not force his boon upon her – it did not feel like his way. “Very well,” he murmured. Then, louder, “I am your Guide. Of course I shall assist you in any way you wish.” As for her question – he briefly considered it. Gods never came alone. Her appearance was merely the first trickle that preceded the flood. He would, he thought, be very busy in the upcoming days. But perhaps that was for the best – interacting with so many might grant him some sense of his lost self. And, if nothing else, he might find himself cannibalizing the mannerisms of those that most interested him. “You are one of the first mortals to appear in these lands in some time. But you shall not be the last. Your kind will swarm this valley like rats.”Perhaps, once upon a time, he had been a kind creature. Perhaps that explained the impulse he had, the words that further spilled from his lips: “They will be both ally and enemy to you. Even amongst the gods, there is a hierarchy – and some may seek to strike you from their midst while you still bleed.”Morpheus exhaled, considering what he had just told her. The information had spilled from him like a torrent, and his throat vaguely ached. Too much speaking, he thought. But he was not quite done. “I am your Guide in this land, and so I shall offer counsel when you need it. Harness the fear that threatens to overwhelm you, and train it to your desires.”And, more hesitantly, he added, “I am called Morpheus. Call upon me when you have need.”[attr="class", "godling"] tags: Pepperwords: 437 notes: these two should be finished up pretty soon o/ [newclass=.morpheus]height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

Pepper "Pepper." That introduction was the first thing to cross her lips after such a load of information. The name came out crisp, even proud, save for a slight waver in delivery that still called-out her nervous nature. Thankfully, it seemed the greater torrent of fear had passed for now. Anxiety and weary still nipped at the female's spirit as told in the way her paws shifted weight to one-another, but overall one could see her adapting - she wasn't completely useless after all. Each breath came less shaky and, with a fully sound mind now, she was able to conduct a proper greeting to the deity before her. The narrow head she bore bowed low as to nearly kiss the ground in a display of both gratitude and great respect.
It was true that the very real probability of other divine mortals coming was both relieving and terrifying. But, in truth, it would be no different from the lost home she so loved. It seemed that good, evil, and everything in-between would have a place no matter where Pepper ended up. She would just have to be careful with those that gave her trust. Raising back up, dull olive pools made contact with their bright-colored opposites. "I will do my best to... train my fear as you suggest. But what should I do in the meantime?" Again eyes broke away to cast toward to magnificence of the surrounding area; even the mar she had created did nothing to stifle such beauty. Her mind was made-up in the short time it took to soak in the scenery and turn back to Morpheus. "May I stay in this Cradle?"
She felt that their conversation was quickly drawing to an end, thus it was imperative to learn exactly where her place was in this invisible hierarchy. Pepper might be the first within a long time, but that certainly didn't mean she was automatically on top. She would need friends, allies, and as much advice as she could get from the Guide. [googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] Truthfully, Morpheus did not know what to make of her bowing, scraping respect. It did not sit well with him, and the slight unease he felt was somewhat troubling. Maybe it was because she was his past, what he must have once been like – and the thought of adulating a creature like his present self seemed hardly appropriate. After all, the only marked difference between them was his inability to age and his grasp of how best to utilize the divinity that swelled within him. But both would come to her with time. “Pepper,” he said, tasting the name. He found he liked the way it pursed his lips, rolled his tongue – it was not a timid sort of name, but it held a sense of promise of what she could become. She just required time. “Learn,” he told her. “You are a wolf – I do not know if you seek company, but in meeting these others you will learn something of yourself and of this land. Explore, discover – the truth of your divinity is yet within reach, but while you strive for it, you will find this place unlike any other.”He allowed a small grin to grace his lips. “I guarantee it.”He knew now where she stood, and he had some idea of where he himself could be found. As he had counseled her to seek others, so he found that this conversation had already done much for his mind. His memories were still displaced, perhaps forever, but their talk, short as it had been, had already begun to change it. “Stay or go,” he answered. “This land is unclaimed as are the surrounding regions. It is not laden with prey, but for a single wolf, it should prove adequate.” Morpheus turned from her now, seeking where to travel next. Perhaps the forest, where wolves were known to hide. “I shall leave you now,” he said as way of goodbye, “but know that I will come when you call. My domain is the dreaming planes – slip into slumber and I will be by your side instantly.” He dipped his head one last time, eyes turned in her direction. “Farewell, Pepper. Take care in the coming days.” [attr="class", "godling"] tags: Pepperwords: 369 notes: complete! i'll leave the thread open for a few days in case you want to write a final reply, but i'll go ahead and deposit the currency earned for completing a thread into your account rn o/ [newclass=.morpheus]height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]
