Alone in a field of rocky ground and sparse vegetation sat a wolf looking up at the sky, his head tilted almost completely back. His name was Tamlin, and he grew up on stories that when you died you became a constellation, huge and twisted, forever to watch over your progeny and their progeny and their progeny after that. Once upon a dream, he was proud to be watched over by his forefathers and felt comfortable under their blazing eyes. Tamlin was not sure how he felt about that now that so many years had passed. Still, they were either there or not and he was not the one who knew the answer to that question. Maybe a God would know the answer, and Tamlin was no god.

It had taken quite a while for Oberon to notice that the soft pulsing on the edge of his consciousness was indeed another newcomer, and not just part of the realm's usual ebb and flow of energy. Their signature seemed quiet, however, and he detected no familiar thread of distress or anxiety. Still, the Guide hastened his step and made his way to the Faded Fields, materializing in a shower of dusty soil and small rocks that pattered softly down on the scrimpy turf.
At a distance from him a wolf sat faced away in the middle of the sprawling fields, gazing up at the heavens, his striking silhouette illuminated by moonlight. His eyes were focused upon the stars that lay strewn across the dark sky like thousands of dandelion seeds cast by wind, cherry petals scattered in the spring. He seemed deep in thought - captivated by the sight, and so as not to give him a shock by coming up behind, the Guide instead called out to him.
"Hello," Oberon intonated, drawing a little closer to the mortal. He did not speak loudly, but it was so quiet that his deep voice carried easily. Stopping a little ways away from the newcomer, the Guide settled on his haunches, placidly awaiting the wolf's response. He didn't know if the other would take kindly to being approached, but at least the male wasn't in a state of anguish like some of his other charges had been, so he wasn't too worried yet.

Tamlin's silent reflection was disturbed by a sound behind him, the pattering of pebbles onto the turf. So, it seemed that he wasn't alone out here on this cloudless night. No matter, from the sound of it it wasn't many or maybe even the first prey animal he would come across in these lands. The thought of a meal was chased away by a deep voice, one like the movement of two mountains without the harsh squeal of rock on rock. "Greetings to you as well stranger"Smoothly the wolf tilted his head down and stood to turn to face Oberon and size up this new presence. As eyes brown like the fertile dirt of his homeland met the orange of sunlight streaming through amber, Tamlin, for once in his life, was at a loss for what to do. There was something other about the stranger who stood across from him, he was indeed a wolf but the smell of it clung to him. It was the same smell that clung to this seemingly empty land, and maybe it was even what the stars smelled of? Who was to say. ooc: No worries! It's all good ^^Ray

The other wolf returned his greeting without hesitation, rising to his feet and turning around to confront Oberon. He seemed calm and unafraid, which the Guide appreciated - it was admittedly quite rare to meet a newcomer who wasn't in some state of disorientation that Oberon would need to deal with before anything else, and he looked forward to this being a relatively simple, rewarding conversation. Introduce, grant information, move on. He hoped.
Inclining his head in a courteous nod, the Guide took a moment to observe the newcomer before him. He was built sturdily, with a few scars just barely visible beneath the thick fur on his neck. Must have been a strong opponent to leave those marks on a wolf such as him, Oberon noted. Yet there were no other significant scars, so he did not suppose the male was a brawler - perhaps just an adept fighter. A neck bite such as the one he'd sustained would quell a lesser wolf, to be sure.
"My name is Oberon, God of Earth. I am here to be your guide." Over time the Guide had come up with many visually pleasing effects to prove his godhood to distraught mortals (thereby proving theirs, too) but this time, the earth merely rippled out from where his forepaws touched the earth, dissipating gently as they would on the surface of a lake. "For you have been called here to become a god, too."

So this stranger was a god? That would most likely explain the smell of something other that flowed off his fur and suffused these lands. Tamlin was no stranger to gods, his old home had worshiped many from gods of the north winds to gods that endlessly chased after elk, changing the seasons as they went. Though what was one to do when you've met one? If anything greeting a god should be akin to greeting the alpha of a pack, and old habits were excessively hard to kill. At a loss, Tamlin bowed, twisting himself in the way one normally did before a wolf of the highest rank. "It is an honor to know your name, Oberon."The position did not really fit his normally dignified posture and he got up quickly, gently shaking his pelt out once he was back to normal. Even though it had not yet been a year, the traditions and greetings of his home already felt strange in his mouth. "How am I to become a god, Lord Oberon? I have been under the assumption that gods were born rather than made from mortals."Ray

The newcomer graced him with a deep bow, which was unexpected to Oberon - hardly any of the mortals he had met so far had felt the obligation to offer him such respect. In fact it felt almost as if he did not deserve it - but Oberon understood that it was likely what the male believed was the way to greet a god in general, not that it was referring to his actual self. So he politely inclined his head in a nod of his own, though he tried to project a humble calmness in his posture.
"Perhaps some gods are born as gods, I would not say that there aren't... But for you and for many others who have been called to this realm, there exists a seed of divinity within your mortal body, planted before you were even conceived. Your first task here is to awaken that seed." Oberon gestured to the ground at his feet, the surface of which was now calm and unbothered. "As I mentioned, my aspect is Earth. Perhaps I should say that upon my arrival here it called to me, and I made it my duty to answer. Take your time to explore these lands and seek out what draws you, and you will discover your power."
Then, the Guide's expression shifted to one of chagrin. "Forgive me, but I have not asked for your name." His ears swiveled back for a moment in apology. "As I am to be your guide throughout your journey, we will become well acquainted. So what is your name, o wolf?"

Tamlin listened carefully to what Oberon had to say, watching the god as he spoke. So, he was to grow into a creature of divinity through a seed of power within him? Should have anyone told him that a year before he would've laughed in their face, now though meeting a god in person seemed to change his idea of what was and wasn't possible. Then again, meeting a god would most likely do that to anyone. Certainly, though he was filled to the brim with questions rather than disbelief, what power would his be, what did it mean to be a god, and how could he ascend to godhood in the first place? Instead of asking them all at once though, Tamlin ought to go one at a time, and maybe one would answer the rest. "My name is Tamlin. My lord, may I ask what this power is? I've never noticed any unusual occurrences in my presence."Rayooc: No worries!

Tamlin. Oberon filed the name away in his memory, adding it to his quickly-growing list of charges that would no doubt call upon him in the days to come. He would be busy, the Guide mused, tending to so many young ones. Though the prospect of such an immediate future did not particularly bother him - in fact he was keen to offer them the help and guidance they needed, so long as his involvement in their journeys could ensure a peaceful pantheon.
Then again, there were one or two who drew some concern - one was a little volatile, and one was just... worrisome. The more he contemplated the circumstances of their meeting, the more Oberon was convinced she was destined for darkness. Which itself was not inherently evil, as darkness must always be present in order for light to shine through it. One could not exist without the other. But it was to such things as dark and death that evil could and did gravitate, perhaps because it was easier to manipulate to their will. He wondered what aspect this male before him would grow to call his own - unlike some of the previous mortals he had been called on to guide, this one's power was not something he felt he could determine hints of just by observing and speaking to him.
Tamlin too seemed to share his thoughts, as the wolf promptly voiced out in a question. "Not until now, no, I would not have expected you to. In your previous residences, the ether that powers draw from does not exist - but now you are in the god realm, and your powers will manifest themselves in time." The Guide thought for a few long moments, his gaze slanted off towards the horizon, before speaking again. "The experience is different for each mortal, and I cannot presume to say I know exactly how to unlock yours. But I would suggest meeting up with some of the other mortals who have come to this realm, as you have. Perhaps your power is best suited to show itself in a different sort of company."
ooc: SORRY this is so late T_T

So he had truly found himself in a different world, and most likely he was to make this place his new permanent home. That didn't sound too bad, after all an escape from the past was what he had been looking for and this seemed to perfectly fit the bill. The thought of other was off-putting though. Should they know of what he'd been a part of in no way would it end well. Maybe it would be better for him to gently ignore that snippet of godly wisdom. "I believe that it would be best that I remain alone as of now, there could be numerous interpersonal issues that may get in the way of ascending for all of us."Ray

The male expressed his disinterest in meeting up with other mortals for now, which Oberon found was not as common a sentiment among the newcomers he had taken charge of, though definitely a respectable one. In fact, the way Tamlin had put it reminded him quite abruptly of the way his own companions had brought such destruction upon themselves, and if the wolf himself felt that way then the Guide had absolutely no intention of pushing it. "I understand. Regardless, I suspect it would be in your interest to take some time to explore these lands, as the energy that pulses through it ebbs and flows, stronger in some areas than others, and ever changing in its aura. Maybe a change of scenery may help to awaken your power." Truth be told, though this mortal seemed agreeable, the fact that Oberon could not sense even an inkling of what aspect Tamlin belonged to sent a feeling of unease through the Guide. There were, of course, intangible powers that lay on both ends of the spectrum, but if Tamlin's element was going to be something with the tendency to go down a dangerous or bad path, the Guide preferred to be made aware of it. Perhaps he would make it a point to check in with the male sometime in the near future, just to be sure. Tamlin
