Alya was running, between bushes, through clearings, even leaping over logs and fallen saplings that littered her path. The yearling was chasing after a doe close to her own age, completely intent on catching her prey. She wasn't at all used to hunting on her own and it showed in how she was chasing instead of trying to be sneaky about it and conserve energy. Despite that Alya was gaining on the doe, so close that she could taste her victory. Of course, it was then that she tripped, tumbling against the hard ground with a sharp yelp as her quarry escaped her.
Getting to her paws Alya found herself in an entirely different place than the forest she had been in seconds ago. Instead of a dark forest crowded with fallen trees and prickly undergrowth here were open fields covered with small white flowers. The thought of food and her strange circumstances completely absent from her mind she crouched down to sniff curiously at the flowers, tail wagging unconsciously. They were rather pretty for plain white flowers, even if they made her nose itch.

Calliope had sensed the change in the land for a while now. For years, it had been still, quiet, and those who remained behind feared that this was the end. So many thought they could never die, but that stretch of unbreakable silence was as close as they could get. If there was a time to pass on, it would be then, and she knew of many who would gladly embrace the fall. But, what was the point of gods if they were to be slain so easily? No, the land was resilient, and so must its residents be. Its slumber was not intended to eradicate all the gods, but only the undeserving – it was a culling of the weak, and the fact Calliope survived reinforced what she already knew. She was strong, and the strong ruled the world. But, already the land was working hard to repopulate itself. Using what unnatural strength it possessed, it reached into the mortal realm to steal regular wolves away from their homes and bring them into its light. And, as Calliope watched those chosen few stumble around mindlessly, unable to make heads and tails of the world they had been unceremoniously dumped in, she mused on her own passage into the divine. It had been so long ago, more moons than she could remember, and the memory was too hazy to make out. Perhaps she had once been like these foolish newcomers, awkward and helpless. Or, perhaps she not grown into perfection, but had already been made that way. Regardless, it didn’t matter anymore. This was no longer her story, though that didn’t mean she couldn’t play a key role in it. A wry smile crept up onto her lips as her senses buzzed in response to a stimulus that was neither here nor there. It was a newcomer, and Calliope rose to her feet eagerly. While there was no scent trail to be followed, no paw prints or signs of passage, but she would find her way all the same. For one who has lived in this realm for so long knows how to manipulate its magic for herself, and, soon enough, Calliope found herself on the far edges of the grassy field, watching the dark-furred wolf investigate her surroundings with a youthful innocence. The newcomer was but a pup, and the realization fed the glee bubbling in her chest. Younglings always had the most entertaining reactions. Before the stranger noticed her, Calliope stirred up the magic within her. Obediently, it shrouded her being and hid her true nature away from prying eyes, leaving the façade of a grey fox in her stead. Satisfied with her disguise, she approached the stranger, moving in near silence even as her delicate paws crushed the white flowers in her wake. However, she made no other efforts to hide her presence and the stranger would soon notice her, or rather the fox she had created from her magic. Until then, she would hold her tongue, if only to see the pup jump. Alya Revin | sorry this is so bad! my writing is still a little rusty <3

Alya was snapped out of her reverie by a noise behind her, the crunching of petals and grass beneath soft pawsteps. It was a noise she hadn't noticed until whoever was making it had been directly behind her, giving them the element of surprise. Leaping around to face them, Alya was surprised to find herself snout to snout with a grey fox. "Oh! Hello there!"Blinking down at the newcomer, the first thing that she noticed was a strange smell. Not bad or good, but different like something other. Maybe it was just how foxes smelled? After all, Alya had never met a fox snout to snout before but she wasn't sure that was it. "Is this your land? Or do foxes not have a set territory?"ooc: No worries! My response kinda sucks too ;-;heika

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","icarus"] It had been a while since her last interaction with such a youngster, or anyone for that matter, but Calliope remembered most wolves to be more cautious than this stranger. Here she was, having just been spirited away to an unfamiliar place, and this was how she decided to react to having been snuck up on? Sure, Calliope’s disguise appeared to be of little threat to the stranger, but most self-sufficient wolves with half a brain knew better than to trust blindly. After all, that was how fools ended up dead. Still, Calliope tempered her initial evaluation. She had been surprised before, by other gods and mortals alike, and this whelp may prove useful yet. “How interesting,” the fox spoke, voice rough and gravelly, muddy brown irises twinkling with haughty intrigue. “Surely, you’re aware that regular foxes wouldn’t be able to understand you, and yet your first instinct is to approach me as if we are one in the same. If this had occurred in your realm, chances are you would have ended up with a nasty bite sooner than an actual reply. Though, luckily for you, this isn’t your realm.”Leaning in further, the fox made as if to walk directly into the stranger’s body. But, before he made contact with a single strand of fur, he began to fade, his body disappearing into thin air and rematerializing several feet behind the stranger. Sitting on his haunches, he nonchalantly lifted his left paw to his muzzle and licked at the fur, wetting it before smoothing it over his face and behind his ear. Continuing to groom himself, he addressed the stranger once again. “I suppose if you didn’t have questions before, you might have some now. Before I explain anything, however, perhaps you’d like to introduce yourself. It is nice to be able to pair a face with a name, wouldn’t you think?”tags: Alya Revin words: 314 [newclass=.icarus]max-height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus b]color:#98b1b0;text-shadow:0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus i]color:#fff; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]

Alya couldn't help but feel abashed by the fox's observations. She really was out of her depth here, fresh out from her mother's watchful eye. Maybe she should truly be more cautious though she had only ever been warned about other wolves (and only ever met them as well). Yes, being more cautious would probably be for the best. Just as Alya was about to open her mouth in reply the fox seemed to walk right through her and her jaw dropped. "What? How did-, how did you?"For a few seconds, it was like her mind shut down and had to restart completely. Finally gathering herself she rubbed at her eyes then looked again at the fox like she was trying to make sure it was there and she hadn't hit her head hard enough to hallucinate it. Certainly, this couldn't be a fox standing in front of her, and there was no way she would let it know her name until she figured out who this was. "What are you?"heika

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","icarus"] Hmm, at a loss for words already, Calliope observed. Though it had only been a matter of minutes since she first started speaking to the pup, boredom was already setting in along the edges of her consciousness. The pup was acting as predictably as Calliope had expected her to, and the monotony of it all was getting to her. And to think she had expended the effort to interact with the whelp only to be met with such a pathetic display. At least she has the awareness to look abashed. “What am I? Isn’t that quite the philosophical inquiry.” The fox grinned, canines glinting in the sunlight. “Over the years, I have come to adopt many titles and many forms. The one you see before you right now may not be the same one I wear the next time we meet. However, if you were educated in the ancient tales, then you will know me as Calliope, god of trickery.”Keeping his stare even and unrelenting, the fox maintained his serious expression despite his nonchalant tone. “While I’ve come to realize you aren’t the brightest, I’m certain you have realized that you are no longer in the world you are originally from. That is because this realm has acknowledged you, and I swear that if you listen to my every instruction,” the fox stared directly into the pup’s eyes, his own changing color from a dark brown into a glowing gold hue, “then one day you will be a god as well. Now, why don’t you introduce yourself? I’d say my patience is stretched pretty thin.”tags: Alya Revinwords: 266 [newclass=.icarus]max-height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus b]color:#98b1b0;text-shadow:0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus i]color:#fff; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]

Alya was not as thoroughly acquainted with the old myths as she currently wished she was but she knew what a god of trickery meant for her. Absolutely nothing good, especially if she got on their bad side and that seemed to have already happened. Well, there was nothing meant to do but muscle through it and hope she didn't end up stuck as an amusing statue rather than a proper wolf with all their limbs properly (and unamusingly) attached. "My name is Alya Revin and I would greatly appreciate remaining in one piece after this conversation." The words tumbled out of her mouth in a rush as she looked into their gold eyes. Hoping that what she said would be true and she didn't end up angering this god any further. heika

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","icarus"] Good, it appeared that the whelp was not as daft as Calliope had assumed. Instead of challenging the truth, Alya had accepted it easily, and Calliope figured that her young age had quite a lot to do with her submissive personality. And to think that, one day, this bow-legged, wide-eyed youngster will have powers equal to her own. But, if Calliope played her cards right, then, no matter how strong Alya became, she would never even think to challenge her. “Alya Revin,” the fox echoed, voice smoothing out from its original gravelly tone into something that more resembled spider silk. For once, Calliope was speaking the truth, and only because there was no fun in dragging this part out. No matter how she dealt with it, the explanation would be nothing but boring, and making it long-winded would only serve to make it more tedious than ever. “Listen well, and I will grant you your wish of staying unharmed. You, my dear, are destined for greatness. But, you are not the only one.”“There are others, those who share your ambitions and wish to steal your opportunities for themselves. As a god, I know of them and their true intentions. Everyone you meet in this realm with either be a god, or will be on the path to godhood, much like yourself. And, if you choose to trust blindly… well, let’s just say you won’t be around to trust much longer.” In a swift, sinuous movement, the fox slithered from his original spot and weaved around Alya’s body so he was whispering into his ear as he continued to speak. “But, obey my command, and you will be stronger than any of the pathetic mortals who wander this land. For you are my charge, now and forever, and I do take care of my charges. That is, as long as they can prove themselves worthy of my attention. What say you, Alya Revin? Will you obey? Or will I have to abandon you to the mercy of other, more vengeful gods than I?”tags: Alya Revinwords: 343 notes: she's a snek, hiss hiss [newclass=.icarus]max-height:400px;color:#E1DFD8;text-align:justify;padding:10px;width:440px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;background:#000;opacity:.5[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus b]color:#98b1b0;text-shadow:0px 0px 2px;font-family:montserrat;letter-spacing:1px;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus i]color:#fff; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #fff; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.icarus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass]

If Alya was scared before, now she was terrified. Thoughts of terrifying vengeful gods and furious older wolves who resented her very presence in this danced across her head. Oh, why had she ever thought it was a good idea to leave her home? At the very least Calliope seemed to want to help her. Or did she? For all her youthful innocence and fear, Alya knew better than to completely trust a trickster god. Trick was in their title after all. The thing was, without the god she would never make it in this strange land, so what was a wolf to do? "Yes, I will." Alya responded, so soon after she had sworn to obey herself only was she swearing allegiance to another! There truly was nothing else to be done in her mind though. "What must I do in order to become a god?"heika

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","icarus"] “Good choice, pet,” the fox all but purred, heated breath wafting across Alya’s ear as he spoke. Though his words were practically dripping with approval, Calliope’s face was as unamused as ever. Were all mortals this pliable? For the whelp to have relented without so much as a challenge was not necessarily unexpected, but it sure took the fun out of it all. Calliope was a god of trickery; she thrived off games of deceit. But, those always required a partner, someone to play along, willingly or otherwise. By conceding so quickly, Alya had ruined the game, and, while Calliope knew that the whelp hadn’t done so intentionally – there had been nothing to suggest that Alya had the courage to challenge her head on – the knowledge did nothing to sooth her ire. Still, her time as a god had taught her to manage her many masks flawlessly. To show her true intentions would be to expose the chink in her armor, and, well, she really couldn’t have that at all. “Godhood for you, youngling, is a long way off. And while I suggest you keep an eye on the prize, do not become so lost in fantasies that you lose sight of the present. The path to becoming a god is not an easy one, and only the strongest make it. But, I do see potential in you, so I will guide you along. For now, we must discover what element you possess control of. Why don’t you go explore the Faded Fields? Something tells me that you may discover your powers there.” Peeling away from Alya’s side, the fox turned and began to walk away, dissolving slowly into the air as he went. Calling over his shoulder, he continued even after his muzzle had already faded away. “Summon me again once you have figured it out. Until then, do not waste my time.”As her illusion returned to nothingness, Calliope got to her paws and turned to return to the realm of Gods, eager to find something or someone else to amuse herself with. The task she had handed down was not difficult by any means, but it would be a test of Alya's survival skills. She was on her own, likely for the first time in her life, and that meant she had to learn to take care of more pressing matters before even considering godhood. Let's see if you can keep yourself fed before I invest anymore energy in you, Calliope mused, casting a quick glance over her shoulder at the pup in the clearing. Don't disappoint me, Alya Revin.tags: Alya Revinwords: 429 notes: i think we're done here!
