Leyda Farstride was not a very superstitious wolf.
Growing up on the move does not lend itself well to superstition. If you fear your next step you will end up stuck, frozen in place by things you have only been told is real. Despite that, she knew better to trust only what you can feel. No sane wolf will doubt the word of their trusted immediately without proof. Leyda felt the same way about the supernatural. Always there was the feeling that something more existed and this place seemed to prove it. The stars seemed to be pooling in this lake under the moon's light, seeming real enough that if you stuck your paws in they would come away dripping with whatever void filled the space between the stars, dark and viscous like bloodied mud. Even if that as just a trick of the light the forest she had just walked through seemed oppressively dark, chasing her between the coldly glowing crystals. Never before had her eyes alight on something like that that wasn't alive, and if she was being honest with herself, it gave her the shivers. Though maybe it would be useful to line a den with them for light in the dark if she could figure out how to break a piece off without snapping her teeth in half.
Now, however, wasn't the time for that.
What was important was finding a place to rest for the night. Weary paws did not deserve to be stood on, and as there seemed to be a distinct lack of competing packs, an almost frightening lack of activity for a place as strange and beautiful as this was. Surely it would be okay for her to dig out a shallow nest in the sandy dirt and nap there. Then she could be up and about, maybe stay in these curious lands longer than usual and explore the world around her. Finding a spot far enough from the water where she wouldn't risk getting wet, and sheltered under a small rise of turf, Leyda began to dig, before turning a few times and settling into the shallow dip and resting her head on her paws, watching the lake. Surely there was someone else here, right? The silence was... unsettling, and the pure alienness of the land was beginning to gnaw on her mind. What if she had died and was stuck to wander an empty purgatory forever? Leyda sighed tiredly at the thought, rubbing her eyes with a dusty paw.
"No. That's stupid, there has to be someone out here beside me."

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] His previous encounter at the lake had left him feeling harassed and out of his element. This, however, already felt more comfortable. It was the night, of course. While in truth a creature could sleep at any time, it was also true that many animals bedded down when the moon rose high into the sky. And for every animal that slept, so too did they dream; most would not remember the contents of these slumbering fantasies, though. They would awaken with only the memory of last closing their eyes, only to suddenly be blinded by morning. But Morpheus could feel it – the gentle swirl of dreams that surrounded him, daring to drag him down into the depths of a bottomless ocean. But he was a dreamwalker, a dream seer – where others saw only the never-ending darkness, he was able to peer down to the unseen floor, able to drift down, down, ever so further down – until he was at the bottom of the ocean. And the bottom of the ocean, he knew from the consumption of fish dreams, was a truly beautiful place to be. So, yes, he was more relaxed than normal. But there was still this sense of unease, that worried at the back of his throat like a shard of stuck bone, of what he might find awaiting him. They came so swiftly, these newcomers. Each brimming with power, with flaws, with facets that he might chip away at – and that was, in a word, terrifying. He still couldn’t remember much, but each had left a piece of themselves with him, flowing through his blood stream. And of the emotions he had come to relearn, trepidation overrode much of his other feelings. A quiet unease drawn from the arrival of so many. And now there was this one. Like me, he thought, as he circled the edge of the lake, his form ghostly on the dark water. His horns were of a darker color than his coat, but occasionally they caught the light of the moon and glowed as if they had been spun from moonbeams and starshine. The stranger’s hiding spot was easy enough to find. He approached with the wind, letting it carry his scent toward her. When at last he drew close enough that he thought she might spot him, or at least see some movement of his approach, he called out softly, “Are you there?”And then, as he drew even closer, so that he might not wake what animals had already bedded down, he said gentler still, “I would ask your name, cousin. You are far from home.”[attr="class", "godling"] tags: Leyda Farstridewords: 436 notes: aaa this came way later than i wanted but it's here now!! lmao [newclass=.morpheus]height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

Just as her eyes were about to close on the view of the lake there was a distant flash of silken white and a smell. Wolf, yet something more, something she couldn't put her paw, or more aptly, her nose on. As his soft tone drifted across the still air, Leyda let out a breath she had unknowingly been holding. It wasn't harsh or commanding, but gentler with a familiar intonation to the words like the comforting weight of assured things. "Aye cousin, I am here and I am Leyda. I would not say I am far from home though, for as long as my pelt hangs comfortably over my bones I am at peace."As she spoke Leyda stood, turning to meet this wolf gladdened to see a kindred spirit in these unfamiliar lands. As her eyes lit upon him, Leyda's jaw nearly dropped. 'Beautiful'Was her first thought, and who could blame her? With a pelt that glowed like it was spun from moonlight and horns that twisted into the air like twin spires cradling the stars between them. Certainly, a magnificent sight compared to her dusty pelt and calloused paws. Who was this wolf that called her cousin? ooc: asdfghjkl I've had the muse for this all dayLirriel

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] Already he felt more at ease with her – compared to his last few, this mortal held an adaptable, water-like quality to her. She gave up her name willingly, and he allowed himself to relax, tension spooling out of him with each breath he drew. “I am Morpheus,” he supplied, glad to have names exchanged so quickly, so pleasantly. It felt almost normal, and a small, contented smile spread across his lips, eyes crinkling with relief. And yet, he knew the exact moment she discerned his form, the truth of his nature – wonder bloomed in her golden eyes, and he allowed the smile to creep higher, make itself more known. He dipped his head in a short bow, eager to treat her as an equal. He was tired of the solitude that came with being other – in the end her blood and his bled the same color, and, well, he felt a kinship to her that had not come with any of the others. “I am a God of Dreams and I am here to guide you in your own ascent to godhood.” And, almost as a joke, he added softly, “And this is not a dream – I would know.”It will be all right – for some reason, the words stuck in the back of his mouth, desperate to be freed from between his jaws. He swallowed them down stubbornly, still puzzled over why he cared so much. He wanted them as equals, yes, but he could not be her friend. He didn’t even know how friends acted. The sense of familiarity was beginning to frustrate him, though he kept the feeling buried deep. Why was she so familiar? “If you have questions, I am here to answer them.”-----------------[attr="class", "godling"] tags: Leyda Farstridewords: 289 notes: this is such garbage im so sorry ;; [newclass=.morpheus]height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

Leyda smiled gently in return, dipping her head in greeting as he introduced himself as Morpheus. A deep-seated ache seemed to alleviate with his presence, in part because it felt overwhelmingly good to talk to another wolf again, and in part, because he seemed so familiar in a way she couldn't comprehend. Why? Certainly, she would remember if she had ever met a god before in her life. It was indeed curious and was the second question she wanted to ask him.
"Well, at the risk of sounding too cliche, why me?" Queried Leyda, tilting her head curiously. By all means, she did want to become a god like Morpheus, but what if she was unworthy? The thought of it gnawed at her stomach like a beast with blunt teeth. "In all honesty, I have not done anything very great, or so deserving of the honor."
ooc: No worries! ^^

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] ‘Why me?’The question was enough to give him pause – and the follow-up only served to further flummox him. Yes, why her? Why him? Was it something of the bloodline? A destiny, handed out with the first flicker of her life? Morpheus did not think it something so grand – rather, it seemed a random selection, as if the very universe itself had a way of selecting its most gifted children. It was her, because she had the potential to be a god – but in this land, that did not make her unique. And at last he placed the feeling of her – the dreamy quality that had so comforted him. She was a mirror to him, what he might have once been, if he had ever been mortal. The only showing of this realization came in the way his gaze momentarily shifted, drifting out over the star-filled lake as he mulled her words. And, since he had awoken with nothing but his name and his powers, he uttered his first lie: “You were chosen not because of what you have done – but because of what you will do.”Later, after their meeting, he would wonder over why he had chosen to speak a falsehood. In the present, he redirected his gaze to her own golden eyes and felt not the sting of guilt as he continued, “Your divinity is in its infancy, Leyda. And you are not alone within these lands. Other mortals, seeking their own path to godhood, are here as well.”And perhaps it was his previous experiences, overlaid atop each other, that caused him to say: “Be wary of them – they can become your enemy as easily as they can act your ally.”[attr="class", "godling"] tags: Leyda Farstridewords: 285 notes: ok this is slightly better lmao [newclass=.morpheus]height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

Though Leyda tried to keep herself relatively realistic, the thought that she may be destined to do great things made her heart soar. At long last there would be something of true meaning, a reason to her rhyme, if all should go well that is. With others as divinely inclined as she supposedly was roaming these lands, one couldn't be too careful. After all, Leyda knew her intentions were good, but what of the intentions of these others? "Morpheus if I may ask you another question, have we met somehow? I know for a fact I would remember if I'd met a god before, but you feel familiar? Maybe not that word, but somehow like sliding my paws into prints I'd made in a path seasons ago. Barely remembered and kind of like home. It's a weird way to explain that I know."Lirriel

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] Had they met? No, he was certain of that – even with his missing memories. Still, he took the time to further mull upon her question, his eyes briefly fluttering closed. And when at last the answer came, it was not with the joy he had expected. Her power was weak, fragile, a newborn chick barely beyond its shell – but now that he recognized it, suddenly all the hints snapped into place. His eyes opened slowly, refocusing on her, carefully examining her. “No,” he said softly, tasting the word. “But the power that dwells within you is not so different from my own.”He inclined his head, and briefly the spiraling horns upon his brow caught the moonlight once more, blue and violet shivering up their lengths, almost like the flashing scales of a fish. “Dreams,” he said, more to himself than to her, considering. What did it mean for there to be two with domain over dreaming? He thought his lost memories might contain the answer. But the past was dead and gone, quite literally for him. Instead, with a slight smile, he said, “Like knows like. I would encourage you to closely examine your dreams, the lands you walk when asleep, and see how your power will manifest itself. It is a… personal journey. At best, I can only offer counsel.”And besides, he added silently to himself, we are different creatures. Her power will not blossom in the same way mine did.[newclass=.morpheus]height:440px;color:#E1DFD8;opacity:.8;margin-top:470px;text-align:justify;padding:15px;width:470px;font-family:Open Sans;font-size:10px;overflow:auto;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus b]font-family:montserrat;font-weight:900;color:#F0F0D8;font-size:12px;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus i]color:#C0D860; font: 11px Roboto; font-style: italic;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-thumb]background-color: #2A2A2A; width:1px; [/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar]width: 5px; height: 5px; background: #ccc; border: 3px solid #f0f0f0;[/newclass] [newclass=.morpheus::-webkit-scrollbar-corner]background: #ccc; border: 2px solid #ccc;[/newclass] [googlefont=Open+Sans]

This evening was unfolding to be one to remember and Leyda's head was whizzing with the lot of it. Not only had she met a God, and shown she had the opportunity to become one along with a power to help her along. So many questions crowded her thoughts, nearly spilling out over her tongue and onto the floor. It would be best if she just narrowed them down and only asked the important ones. "Alright, I'll remember to look around if I have the chance to lucid dream. Are there any signs, in particular, I should look for when I dream? Or is it wildly different for everyone?"Leyda queried, after a gentle pause in which she organized her questions and relaxed her rushing mind. Lirriel

[googlefont=Roboto][googlefont=Montserrat][googlefont=Open+Sans] [attr="class","morpheus"] Morpheus titled his head, considering her query. The words “I cannot remember.” sat upon his tongue, ready to spring into the air that sat empty between them. Stubbornly, he swallowed them back down. He knew something of how mortals viewed gods – knew that to acknowledge his ignorance would invite her to question all he had previously spoken. He did not think Leyda the type to immediately scorn a creature devoid of the omniscience his kind was said to possess – but it was also that imparting such knowledge upon her carried its own risks. Namely that she would spread the tale, and those who would find fault with him would seize upon it. But he knew how to lie – smoothly and slippery, his words eel-like. They did not allow her to grasp them, to truly understand them, but they lent the idea of a physical object, of an unobjectable certainty. That he knew and only chose not to share such knowledge with her because it was a sort of test, aimed at her cleverness and her worthiness. That didn’t keep the kindness from his voice. “Different for all,” he said. “For me, dreams are entities that I might interact with. I can encourage them to leap upon you, to die between my jaws – and sometimes, they whisper to me secrets of the future. But yours will undoubtedly be different. Do not seek my signs – find your own.”Perhaps, if he had some recollection of his past self, he could have better counseled her. But as it was, the words that rang from his mouth were godly, divine, as if he spoke some secretive prophecy, spun just for her.
